Broken PT symmetry in dual-core fiber optic cable

A team from the Lukasiewicz Institute - IMiF has made a significant advance in the field of optical research, presenting a new geometry for a dual-core optical fiber. It was inspired by the phenomenon of PT symmetry breaking, which was implemented by combining energy gain and loss systems in a single fiber. The concept of PT symmetry breaking, proposed in 1982, has found applications in a variety of optical systems, from periodic structures to high-power lasers.

Optical metal-organic thermometer

Metal-organic frameworks (MOFs) have recently attracted increasing scientific attention due to their attractive structural, magnetic, dielectric, optical and phonon properties. Representatives of this group of materials include compounds with perovskite-type structures. Researchers at the Institute of Low Temperatures and Structural Research of the Polish Academy of Sciences have developed a new type of optical thermometer based on the luminescence of Cr3+ ions in MOF structures, enabling precise temperature measurements without touch.
