Smartphone sensor reveals secrets of antimatter

A team of scientists, including physicists working at the Nicolaus Copernicus University, has developed a detector that uses modified mobile phone camera sensors to track in real time the points at which antimatter annihilates with matter. This device can locate antiproton annihilations with a resolution of about 0.6 micrometres, a 35-fold improvement over previous real-time methods. (Photo: CERN)

Even more sensitive spectroscopy

Researchers at the Nicolaus Copernicus University in Toruń have developed an innovative spectroscopic method using heterodyne signal detection and optical modal analysis of resonant cavities. Thanks to this technique, extremely precise measurements of the spectral lines of gases are possible, which significantly exceeds previous solutions and may find application in atmospheric research or industrial diagnostics. PhotonHub opens factory

PhotonHub Europe is a European support network for entrepreneurs introducing photonic technologies into their products or processes. 38 leading technology centres (including 2 from Poland) offer knowledge, training - and above all the opportunity to test, prototype and develop technologies. Thanks to EU funding, technology services are available to companies on attractive terms. PhotonHub also supports startups.

PhotonHub PHACTORY, which offers European companies photonic technology centre services at various stages of product development: from TRL2 to TRL7, launched in April. The Phactory covers up to 85% of the cost of these services (in some cases even all of it). Among the centres that make up Phactory are two Polish ones: Łukasiewicz - Institute of Microelectronics and Photonics and Warsaw University of Technology.
