Hello!

We are pleased to present the July edition of the Polish Newsletter on Optics and Photonics. As every month, we share the most important news, events and successes of the photonics and optics community in Poland. In this issue, you will find, among other things, a report from the conference and trade fair, the premiere of a dictionary, and information about ongoing projects and research.

In the meantime, we invite you to read the PNOP and share information with us,

It's here! English-Polish dictionary of optical terms

On July 1, 2025, during the Polish Optical Conference (PKO), the first English-Polish dictionary of optical terms published by the Candela Foundation was launched. This publication is the result of eight months of preparation, including the collection of terms from the industry, their compilation, and preparation and printing. We encourage you to download and use the dictionary!

New photonic platform straight from UW & WAT

A team of scientists from the University of Warsaw, the Military University of Technology and the Institut Pascal at the Université Clermont Auvergne has developed an innovative method for using cholesteric liquid crystals in optical microcavities. The platform created by the researchers enables the formation and dynamic tuning of photonic crystals with built-in spin-orbit coupling (SOC) and controlled laser emission.

Photon entanglement in tissue imaging

Scientists from the Jagiellonian University have demonstrated that quantum entanglement of photons can be used in cancer diagnostics. A team led by Paweł Moskal has shown that photons from the annihilation of matter and antimatter in a material are not fully quantum entangled. This discovery has surprised the scientific community. The discovery described above opens up possibilities for using the degree of quantum entanglement of photons as an indicator in cancer diagnosis.

Photonics meets Agrifood & Biotech in Warsaw

PhotonQBoost supports and promotes direct cooperation between technology developers and users for more sustainable and resilient business in Europe. PPTF participates in this project together with partner photonics organizations: JOANNEUM RESEARCH (coordinator of Photonics Austria), Photonics BW, Czech Optical Cluster, Photonics Finland, TOOLAS and Photonics Bretagne. The aim of the project is to provide practical support for small and medium-sized companies, both those creating photonic and quantum solutions for industry as well as those applying them in their business.

Registration for the PhotonQBoost Matching Mission in Poland is now open. This is the first of a series of missions aimed at establishing contacts and cooperation between technology companies and representatives of application industries. The missions, focused on selected application industries, will be organised in each of the countries participating in the project (Poland, Austria, the Czech Republic, Finland, France, Lithuania, and Germany).

The October event focusing on the Agrifood & Biotech sectors will be organised in Warsaw in cooperation with the Unimos Alliance cluster, CEZAMAT PW and Industry Contact Points. The programme includes pitching sessions, visits to companies and laboratories, workshops, information about upcoming competitions and matchmaking.

The mission is open to representatives of Polish and European SMEs operating in the fields of photonics, quantum technologies, agrifood & biotech. Participation in the mission is free of charge, but registration is required – in the event of a large number of applications, the committee will select the participants.

Registration is open until 28 August – more information and the registration form are available below.
