| FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: Kansas City, MO— Belger Arts is pleased to announce the exhibition, Stuart Asprey: Ornamental Outré featuring new ceramic sculpture by award-winning artist, Stuart Asprey, Associate Professor of Ceramics at the University of Oklahoma.
An opening reception will take place on First Friday, February 7, 2020, at 6pm at Belger Crane Yard Studios located at 2011 Tracy Avenue Kansas City, MO 64108. The exhibition will remain on view through April 4, 2020.
Ornamental Outré features three distinct bodies of work. Asprey explores themes of excess and loss of innocence within porcelain bowls, plates and vessels akin to graphically detailed clay canvases layered in concept and technique. Asprey describes his newest works as "indeterminate" and evolving. Pop-culture inspired narratives surrounding ideas of consumption and overindulgence of food, drink, screens and entertainment are conveyed through silhouettes of plastic army figures, superheroes and toys as well as through classical imagery and iconography.

About Stuart Asprey's work: Ornamentation and narrative coalesce in Asprey's ceramic vessels. His works are graphically detailed clay canvases that question our past actions and events. Using history as his arsenal – folklore, politics, science, human geography, and most importantly, popular culture – Asprey’s works are at once irreverently witty, gut wrenchingly serious, and filled with parody. Asprey’s precise and detailed work is inspired by the weird, funny, and uglier side of life. This work embodies a place where art taps into our inner youth while inviting us to reflect on the repercussions derived from the actions of adults.
