You’re invited to a free artist talk with visiting ceramic artist Hayun Surl. Hear about his process, personal history, and the projects he has developed during his residency at Belger Crane Yard Studios.

Originally from Korea, Surl completed a two-year apprenticeship in Korean traditional pottery and kiln design before earning an MFA in Ceramics from Ohio University. He is currently an Assistant Professor of Ceramics at Angelo State University in Texas.

Surl’s work blends Eastern and Western techniques and philosophies, both honoring and challenging tradition. During his residency, he is developing large-scale ceramic sculptures that explore the fluidity of cultural identity.
