The luminous glasswork of Los Angeles-based artist Ethan Stern is featured in Belger Arts’ current exhibition Beat the Heat. Stern pushes glass beyond the vessel through carved and engraved surfaces that capture light, texture, and color. He explains, "through glass, I aim to evoke a sense of interconnectedness, using the material’s elemental relationship to earth and fire to bridge the natural and the man-made."
Stern obtained his Associates degree in Ceramics from TAFE College in Brisbane, Australia, and his BFA in Sculpture and Glass from Alfred University. His artwork is included in collections such as The Corning Museum of Glass, The Museum of Glass in Tacoma, WA, The Fort Wayne Museum of Art, The Lowe Art Museum, The Museum of American Glass, The Eboltoft Glass Museum in Denmark, and the Toyama Glass Art Museum in Japan. He has taught sculpture at the University of Washington, Pilchuck Glass School, Pratt Fine Arts Center, The Penland School of Craft, and the Pittsburgh Glass Center.
