Employee Announcements

Lilly Powell has been promoted to Studio Manager. Lilly came to Belger as a resident artist in 2019 and has excelled in every role she’s taken on. After a brief stint working on administrative projects at Belger Cartage, she became the studio technician in 2021. Her ability to develop and implement systems as well as her organizational skills, among other talents, make her an excellent fit for her new role.

Paul Maloney’s position will change from Studio Manager to Gallery Associate and Residency Manager. Paul will be responsible for providing tours, helping with exhibition installations, and for the recruitment and operations of the Artists in Residence Program. Since starting at Belger Arts in 2020, Paul’s brought an enthusiastic energy, a strong background in ceramics, and robust networking skills which will continue to help us expand our audience base and partner network. (He is also this month’s Mug of the Month Artist, see details below.)

Congratulations, Lilly and Paul on your new positions!

February Mug of the Month

The February Mug of the Month artist is Paul Maloney, Belger Arts' Gallery Associate and Residency Manager. Originally from Houston, TX, Paul views the vessel as a canvas, an empty page waiting to be filled. He synthesizes his daily experiences through written word on anthropomorphized pots. These stories range from the mundane to the unworldly, from punk rock dive bars to a 10th century castle–anything and everything has a story that he feels the need to share. His mugs are available online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery.

Digital Debut: Kyla Strid

Belger Arts Digital Debut artist, Kyla Strid, has been awarded numerous national and international artist residencies and has extensive experience as a gallery manager, studio manager, and curator at various institutions in the U.S. She is currently the Director of Residencies and Adult Education at the Lawrence Arts Center in Lawrence, KS.

Kyla's work is a blend of historical forms and personal design sensibilities. The surfaces of her functional work are a blend of plant motifs, textures, and line work.

Purchase her work online and at the Belger Crane Yard Gallery through March 31, 2024.
