So I wrote off astrology as a whole as being an interesting fringe subject for some people, but I also thought that it was too much math for too little results.

The first real investigation that I started doing into astrology, though, proved me wrong pretty much right away.

I was working within a framework or a system, started by Karl Hans Welz, that focused around the star Algol. I wanted to know more about this star since this was the focal point of many of our rituals and many of the teachings and even the meditations.

I started noticing, historically, that Algol has a very, very interesting and pre-undeniable link to mass murders, beheadings, sometimes shifts or revolutions of information, but nearly always, very specific and very brutal events always followed the alignment of Algol.

For instance, if Algol is aligned with Jupiter, almost always there's a beheading of king. With Venus, there's a beheading of lovers, or that there's a mass murder, mass suicide, or some massive violent event that surrounds love or lovers. I remember I made a list of all of the correspondences and coincidences that I could find between Algol and events here, and the list went on and on and on.

In short, Algol, the ‘Devil’s Eye In The Sky’ was the first clue that I had that there was something to astrology, that there is information that we can extract out of the stars and their positions, and that there is an influence that the stars can have over what happens here, with us, on the smallest micro-scale, echoing back to the Holographic Universe model: that everything that's happening on the grandest scale is also happening on the smallest scale and everywhere in between.

But honestly, I still wasn't entirely convinced enough about the truth of astrology. I still saw it at it as too much math and not enough outcome.

But then I started noticing something that I'm sure many of you have noticed: Mercury retrograde!

As I write this, after we just barely entered into a Mercury retrograde cycle.

I noticed the influence of Mercury retrograde after working with a publisher that I was in negotiations with for the publication of some of my earlier books. We kept coming up against obstacle after obstacle after obstacle: everything from the printing press shutting down to losing the contract with the graphic designer that was going to design the cover of the book, and even the editor refusing to continue to read and edit the book.

Confounded and frustrated and I got on the phone with the publisher at the time, and I got on the phone with that publisher, and he said, "Well, it's probably Mercury retrograde."

He gave me a basic explanation that from our visual perception, as Mercury passes the sun at a specific alignment, it appears then to be moving backwards. Mercury being the planet of initiation, communication, personal connection, messages, and interpersonal understanding, you may find all of your communications being not only disrupted, but flowing backwards.

This means that during a Mercury retrograde cycle, you may have to redo work that you've already done. You have to have conversations that you've already had, hopefully in a better way.

When Mercury is in retrograde, most people experience major disruption in their ability to communicate effectively with others. When I start noticing communication breaking down, when I start noticing that no matter what I do, that my efforts just aren't catching and aren't making any ground, when it feels like I'm just beating my head against a wall and not getting anything done, almost always I look on the calendar and "Aha, there it is. Mercury retrograde."

Astrologers and average people have also notice this with all the other planets as they go retrograde, or as they go direct, or as they do anything in the heavens that they're doing.

Astrology has become, for me, a verification system. A way of confirming that there's weirdness in the air or that the communication that isn't flowing isn't just in my head, but that it’s also in the stars!

I'm going to be honest with you: One of the biggest reasons I still have not really pursued astrology with full force in the same way that I pursue evocation or soul travel or even certain types of spell casting is because of the math.

I hate math. Hate it!
