There are many opinions on what the Left Hand Path is and what it entails. Some simply use the label as an excuse for a purely sinister approach to magick. Others see it as a path that leads to complete spiritual liberation. Where the disciples of the Right Hand Path work towards union with the divine, the disciple of the Left Hand Path sees union with the divine only as another step on his and her journey of complete liberation. Taking it all a step further, where he separates himself from divinity, steps out of creation into a new creation of his and her own making — becoming creator of worlds themself.

Most practitioners of Left Hand Path magick will be familiar with the Qliphoth. They can be considered the shadow aspects of the Sephiroth from the Tree of Life. One of the Qliphoth is Sathariel; it is ruled by Lucifuge Rofocale. Its energies conceal the connexion between matter and spirit. Certain demonic entities connected to Sathariel are the Order of Shereil. Their energies have the power to enlighten the occultist through darkness. In the process of working with them, the practitioner will be lead into the deepest depths of spiritual darkness until he learns to see through the illusion and looses his attachments. The result will be the perception of Lucifer's light which entails complete liberation and spiritual autonomy.

Lucifuge began to intrigue me as I began to study the Grand Grimoire, also known as the Red Dragon. As I kept going through the text again and again and prepared for the actual rituals in it, Lucifuge appeared to me one night revealing a different approach that I was supposed to take. He revealed a ritual that would attune my sphere to the energies of Sathariel and his own. The ritual entailed calling upon four other demonic entities: Belphegor, Samael, Naamah and Lilith. As the powers of Sathariel would begin to be pulled into this earth and penetrate my energy field, I would be given a familiar with the sole purpose of manifesting my material desires as swiftly as possible. The familiar worked literal miracles in my life, but the manifestations came with a price.

With every new wish the familiar granted me a deeper sense of meaninglessness and depression overcame me. An almost unbearable nagging and silent awareness that all the manifestations that I was receiving were totally meaningless. And that, in fact, those blessings came with a curse; the curse of knowing that nothing in this world can give the human experience real true meaning, if it is not lived and experienced in a greater spiritual context. A context that often entails many different incarnations.

The powers of Sathariel worked in my life, on my spirit and on my psyche, giving me what I wanted in order to show me the illusory nature of them. And through the suffering and being made aware of my attachments I was being prepared to see the light in the deepest darkness. At the climax of this spiritual crisis, the powers of Sathariel revealed the path to spiritual autonomy to me. I was shown the path of inner alchemy that allows the seeker to funnel his energy into the being that he will become once the physical vessel has lost its` strength. This process will allow the occultist to strengthen his soul to the point where it can withstand the void and experience complete liberation in the realms beyond.
