I am co-author of Awakening Lucifer with Asenath Mason. Bill Duvendack here again...
It’s always striking when you’re walking the Left Hand Path and discover there is something there that you have known all along, but from a different perspective. Such is the case with Lugh, and many other solar deities, but before I get into that, let’s establish a baseline.
The Left Hand Path is known as being feminine yoni, as opposed to the current solar phallic paradigm that is currently in power, and because of this, often times it exclusively gets relegated to the night and all things nocturnal. While I particularly enjoy this facet of the path, it is wise to remember that this is not exclusively the path, but rather a dominant feature of it. One of the few exceptions to this philosophy is Lucifer, who is a solar deity.
No matter the story you may prefer, Lucifer was once a solar deity, a fact corroborated by many different stories that have to do with his origin and creation, so on the surface it would seem his existence on the LHP doesn’t quite fit, but when we dig deeper, we see he fulfills an important and subtle role, and one of the best ways to understand him is to look at how his mask is Lugh in the Celtic tradition.

In some stories, Lugh is a member of the Tuatha De Danann, which, in brief, is a race of elder beings that were there before the commonly known Celtic deities came into popularity. Read: They were the deities there before the invasion and mass atrocities by the Abrahamic faiths. Therefore, we can see that he is older than most of the Celtic deities known of today, so he was brought forward into the neo-paradigm. He is a savior and a king type character, who corresponds to skill, crafts, and the arts, which are all commonly known. Often times he is seen as a Sun god as well, and this is where we see the Lucifer correlation.
However, as we all know, the Left Hand Path is wrought with shadows and deception, and there is a common one contained in the above paragraph. Often times, people point to the common “Lu” and say it shows a direct correlation between he and Lucifer. However, this is not the case. This exists because both are Latin based languages, and therefore this is a trait they share linguistically but not culturally. What they share culturally is that both identify with the light and are in that way solar, which you wouldn’t expect to find on the LHP, yet here it is, but what makes it different is that it’s the black sun, not the midnight sun, the black sun, and it is through keeping this in mind you will unlock deeper levels of mystery contained in Awakening to Lucifer.
