Today’s the day!
The value of any charitable donation made to the Tennyson Center for Children through Arvada’s Community First Foundation by midnight, Wednesday, Dec. 8, will be boosted by as much as 30 percent, thanks to the generosity of FirstBank and the Community First Foundation. That means a $10 gift could become $13, and a $1,000 gift could blossom into $1,300. Remember, the end of the year, and with it the deadline for deductions to your 2010 income tax, is approaching fast. What’s more, donations to the Tennyson Center’s efforts to break the cycle of child abuse and neglect are eligible for the Colorado Child Care Contribution Credit. For more information and to donate, click on this link to the Community First Foundation’s Giving First website.
And for those with slow e-mail…
The Tennyson Center for Children also will benefit from the Highlands Shop, Snack & Sip, 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Dec. 11, at the Highlands Square independent restaurants along 32nd from Julian to Perry streets. Visiting families will have the opportunity to meet Santa, snap holiday photos, hear strolling carolers, sip hot cider, eat holiday cookies and take a horse-drawn wagon ride. A donation of $5 or a toy per family is suggested, but more is welcome. All donations and toys will go to Tennyson Center for Children. The event, which is sponsored by Nostalgic Homes and the Highlands Square Merchants Association, also features a holiday tree with ornaments bearing TCC children's wish list items.
Now that’s an open house!
The first annual open house for Sassy Stuff from 2 to 6 p.m. Friday, Dec. 10, will take place in an actual house: 8578 Forrest Lane, Highlands Ranch, 303-471-1048. Get Bookstacks bargains while you can All (mostly gently used and well-treated) fiction books are 50 cents and coffee table books are a mere $1 through Dec. 18 at the Bookstacks, a used bookstore on the University of Denver campus that benefits D.U.’s Penrose Library. The bookstore is open 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays in the Mary Reed Building, 2199 S. University Blvd., and will be closed from Dec.19 through Jan. 1. D.U.’s parking situation can be a bit complicated. (You’re not going to want to pay $12 to park in a covered lot for the privilege of buying inexpensive books.) It’s probably best to park at a meter on Iliff or to use the parking lot between Iliff and the Mary Reed Building on the D.U. campus.
