Precious Little Objects II

Buy a unique sculpture and support TBSSS!

Currently on show in Clara Street Gallery we have a beautiful and special group exhibition titled Precious Little Objects II. This is our biennial fundraising exhibition which raises funds for the Studio, through the sales of donated sculptures.

We are thrilled that we have sold several sculptures already and that funds raised will go towards our scholarship program which supports youth and artists with a disability. Funds will also help subsidise the costs of the life study program, an important teaching legacy of Tom Bass AM.

There are still a number of unique sculptures available for purchase that range in price from $200 - $1,800. This is a wonderful opportunity to support TBSSS and gain an outstanding work of art whilst doing so!

Exhibition artists include: Helen Alajajian, Karen Alexander, Tom Bass AM, Wendy Black, Carol Crawford, Christine Crimmins, Margo Hoekstra, Jules Jones, Anthony Mitchell, Ingrid Morley, Elena Murgia, Jenny Pollak.

We deeply thank the exhibiting artists for their donations and generous support of this special exhibition.

If you would like to visit the Gallery in person, we very much welcome visitors. Exhibition runs until 3 May. Please click here to view our opening hours.

NEW opportunities to work from the Life Model

There are two upcoming opportunities to work from the Life Model this autumn and winter.

Please note that Georgina Mills special offering, has new dates and will now be running in July.

Working from Life: Portrait Study with Wendy Black
Tuesdays: 27 May – 24 June (5 weeks)
10am – 4pm
EB fee:$580 / General fee: $640

This course will be an intensive head study based on close observation of the forms, proportion and relevant anatomy. Students will be asked to observe closely and work quickly so that they are relying on their observational skills not on what they think they know of a head. It is surprising what can be achieved working in this way. Students will develop a greater understanding, as well as skills in drawing in 3D, modelling in clay, as well as mould making and casting in plaster.

¾ Life-size Torso Sculpture Workshop with Georgina Mills
Monday 7 July – Friday 11 July
Mon – Thu:10am – 2pm, Fri: 10am – 3pm
Fees: $790.30

This is an intensive workshop that aims at improving student’s observational skills, sculpture techniques and knowledge of human anatomy and form. This course is specifically designed to introduce students to sculptural methods that help simplify the complexities of the human figure.

Over the course students will sculpt from life a ¾ life-size torso with water-based clay. Group lessons and daily individual critiques will help to guide them through this process. Students will then prepare their sculpture to be kiln fired locally at their convenience. Students are to be aware that the kiln firing process can be unpredictable in results and the main goal of the workshop is learning how to improve their sculpting from life skills.

Only 8 places available for this special workshop.

FLOW: Fluidity of Expression is a group exhibition which showcases Gymea TAFE Ceramic Design Studio’s Advanced Diploma students.

It features the work of seven unique artists, including Karen, who, through the act of making, transform life’s joys and obstacles into tangible displays of emotion, fragility and strength.

The exhibition continues until 8 April and is open daily, 10am - 4pm.

Congrats Karen!
