Ruled by Neptune, Pisces is known for imagination, intuition and escapism, which is why whenever Mercury is in the sign of the Fish his creativity tends to flourish, his intuition often blossoms, and he usually gets lost in daydreams.

It's also why many of may feel inspired on a creative level, be motivated to pursue a spiritual path or find ourselves lost in thought as we dream about a wonderful new future. Appealing as all this may sound, it’s important to remember that while Pisces is a noble, idealistic and gentle sign, it also has a highly seductive shadow side.

Although the higher nature of Pisces rules artists, healers, spiritualists and divinity and expresses itself through idealism and transparency, its shadow side presides over the addicted, the afflicted, the hidden and the deceptive, and it expresses itself through duplicity and negativity.

How Mercury expresses itself in Pisces depends upon which energy is fueling it. For example, when its tapped into the mystical side of the Fish, Mercury can easily connect to the other side. At such times, many of us find it easier to recognize messages from loved ones, especially those of a Neptunian nature such as dreams, fragrances and music.

In contrast, when Mercury is tapped into the miserable side of the Fish, it can easily become depressed, hopeless and deceitful. At such times, many of us may be prone to pessimism, delusion or embrace our inner victim.

Fortunately, even when Mercury in Pisces is down in the dumps because Saturn rained on its parade or Neptune pulled the wool over its eyes, thanks to free will we aren't obligated to join its pity party.
