SATURN RETURNS TO AQUARIUS
On December 17, transiting Saturn returns to Aquarius where it will remain until March 7, 2023. From March 8 - July 1, 2020, and on the collective level we had a preview of what we might expect from Saturn during this upcoming cycle. Saturn is the planet of sobering realities, and truth be told what we (and the world) experienced wasn't easy.
Saturn represents limitations, restrictions, shortages, borders and authority figures including the government, and Aquarius is the sign of brotherhood, community, fraternity, group relationships, protests, social gatherings, technology and air travel. Not only did Saturn's brief visit to Aquarius coincide with shortages, but also curfews, social distancing, closed borders, travel-related quarantine requirements, remote work, remote learning and widespread layoffs in the travel and hospitality industries.
Given this past experience, should we expect more of the same once Saturn returns to Aquarius?
The short answer is yes, and while I hope I'm wrong, I believe we're going to experience a greater expansion of government control over our daily lives that in some instances will be met with insurrection.
And it's not just because of Saturn in Aquarius.
In 2021, the USA's Pluto return begins, and it too continues through early 2023. Pluto is always about transformation, and since this aspect is a conjunction (arguably the most powerful aspect), it's about beginnings and endings. However, for Pluto death comes before rebirth, which is why it destroys before it rebuilds. And where is this Pluto return happening? It's in the USA's second house of money, resources and values. Yes, 2020 was a tough year, and while this is far from the message you'd like to hear, here in the USA it's far from over. In many ways, it hasn't even started.
On a personal level:
For those born under Aquarius, Leo, Taurus or Scorpio, at some point during this cycle Saturn will aspect your Sun (conscious identity and self-expression). If you're born under Aquarius, Saturn will conjunct your Sun; Leo it oppose your Sun, and Taurus or Scorpio, it will square your Sun.
With Saturn, you reap what you sow, so what you've been doing (or not) up until now will influence how you experience this cycle. That being said, it's important to remember that hard aspects provoke action and can coincide with periods of success.
On the other hand, those born under Gemini and Libra can expect steady progress when Saturn trines your Sun, while those born under Aries and Sagittarius may come across a solid opportunity when Saturn makes a sextile to it.
If you are born under Capricorn or Pisces, at some point Saturn will semi-sextile your Sun, but the influence of this aspect is so minor that you probably won't notice it.
In contrast, if your Sun is in Cancer or Virgo you're likely going to have to make some kind of adjustment when Saturn in Aquarius quincunxes your Sun. Although a minor aspect, the quincunx often speaks to health issues so if you're feeling out of sorts, and especially if you have any symptoms that may be symptomatic of heart, blood pressure or circulation issues, play it safe and check it out.
That being said, everyone can expect the life areas ruled by the house that Saturn transits in your horoscope to be tested in some way. The purpose of this testing is to help us gain clarity about what's working in our lives and what's not so that we can make amends or if need be, let it go.
You can scroll down below to find out which house (and life areas) Saturn will be testing in your horoscope.
Just two days after Saturn enters Aquarius (December 19), Jupiter follows it into the Water Bearer where the two planets will meet in a conjunction on December 21 (more on that next week!)
Once Jupiter enters Aquarius, it moves quickly through all 30 degrees. In fact, it moves so quickly that it enters Pisces on May 13, where it will visit the earliest degrees of the Fish until July 29.
Jupiter's swift movement means that everyone born under Aquarius will experience Jupiter's conjunction to his/her natal Sun by May 13th, and those who are born with the Sun at 22-29° of Aquarius will experience it again after Jupiter returns to Aquarius from July 29 - December 28, 2021. Traditionally, Jupiter-Sun conjunctions coincide with success, romance, travel, creativity, pregnancy or other happy events or opportunities.
What about the rest of you?
As the planet of abundance, you can count on Jupiter to bestow its blessings in the form of growth and expansion in at least one area of your life. Which one? That depends on which house Jupiter is transiting in your horoscope.
While growth and abundance sound great, it's actually a double-edged sword. For example, a Jupiter transit in the 2nd house of money can increase how much cash comes in, and/or it can also increase how much of it goes out. Jupiter in the 6th house could bring a new job or it could add more grunt work to an existing one.
While we love to focus on the pros of Jupiter transits, there are also potential cons (i.e., excess and waste), and it's important to be aware of them so if they rear their head, you can nip them in the bud.
Getting Personal with Saturn and Jupiter
So which life areas will Saturn be testing (and/or asking you to define) and which ones will Jupiter expand in your life? Keep in mind that since each house rules more than one life area, it's possible that Saturn and Jupiter will be influencing different ones, but it's just as possible that they'll focus their energy on a common one.
While the combined influence of Jupiter and Saturn can result in delayed or inhibited expansion, the truth is that when you work with their higher sides, you can make great strides.
Without Jupiter, Saturn can get stuck and become stagnant, and without Saturn, Jupiter can go overboard and bite off more than it could ever chew. But, when they work together in balance and moderation, you can achieve lasting success.
