ASTROLOGY FORECAST

May 1 - 7, 2023

All dates and times are given in EDT.

Monday, May 1. You can count on today's Sun-Mercury Rx conjunction to promote communications and foster creativity. Since it's in Taurus, it will also help you remain calm, cool and collected if you happen to experience an unexpected event when Pluto stations retrograde and triggers the April 20 eclipse point. The only caveat is that with Mercury retrograde, it's important to listen carefully before committing to a project and/or fully understand the situation before taking action. When the transiting Virgo Moon goes void at 7:53 PM, it's time to kick back and relax.

Tuesday, May 2. This is one of the best days of the week. If you were thrown off course yesterday, today's transiting Moon in Libra (since 2:09 AM) can help you restore balance in your life. It can also inspire you to make social plans, pursue a romantic interest or treat yourself to something special.

Wednesday, May 3. Although you can expect yesterday's congenial mood to carry over into today, be aware that emotions could run a bit high from 4:00 - 6:00 PM when the transiting Moon has a brush with Mars. If you can sidestep this energy, this day should be a good day.

Thursday, May 4. Yesterday's lighthearted energy takes an intense turn as the transiting Moon enters Scorpio (9:33 AM) and begins to move towards the lunar eclipse point. In addition, Venus's square to Neptune indicates there could be some type of deception connected to love or money, perhaps due to the influence of Mercury retrograde. If so, the good news is that Venus's sextile to Jupiter suggests that the matter can be easily resolved.

Friday, May 5. Lunar eclipse in Scorpio. See below.

Saturday, May 6. The overall energy of the day is good but with a Void Moon in Scorpio from 10:38 AM - 4:04 PM, most of it will be best spent on activities that don't require a definite result. You can expect an energetic change for the better once the Moon enters the friendly, easygoing and optimistic sign of Sagittarius.

Sunday, May 7. Although the transiting Sagittarius Moon could ignite a sense of adventure (or at least a desire to get out of the house), Venus's ingress into Cancer at 10:25 AM could inspire you to be a homebody. Either way, the week should end on a positive note.

PLUTO STATIONS RETROGRADE AT 0°21' AQUARIUS

May 1 - October 10, 2023

Pluto transits retrograde every year for about 5 months, and like all retrograde transits, this one is best used for introspection rather than initiation.

While Pluto is retrograde, it's time to look within for any repetitive patterns, obsessive thoughts or other psychological demons so you can work to banish them from your consciousness. Likewise, it's time to identify and purge relationships and circumstances that are toxic to your physical, emotional and spiritual well being.

If you can clear away these negative influences (or at least some of them), you'll find it much easier when Pluto moves forward to create a life that aligns with your soul's purpose and brings you fulfillment. If not, they'll continue to interfere with your personal happiness until you release them.

Pluto as an Eclipse Trigger

When distinguishes this retrograde cycle is that from the moment Pluto changes direction to head back into Capricorn, it will be applying a square to the April 20 eclipse point at 29°50' Aries.

A hard aspect (conjunction, opposition, square) from a transiting planet to an eclipse point triggers the eclipse and reactivates its energy.

Since Pluto moves so slowly, this square will be in effect from May 1 - June 18 (the day it becomes exact). Consequently, the influence of the Aries solar eclipse will be active as well, which means during this time an event could occur that stems from the solar eclipse on April 20.

LUNAR ECLIPSE AT 14°58' SCORPIO
May 5, 2023 • 1:35 PM EDT

This month's Scorpio Full Moon is a penumbral eclipse, which means the Moon will only get as far as the outer part of the earth's shadow. As a result, it will look very much like a typical full moon, and its intensity will fall short of a partial or total eclipse.

Now, that doesn't mean you won't feel it. Even a typical full moon can coincide with a major impact if it connects strongly with your personal horoscope.

To that point, if you have a planet or sensitive point at or near 14-15° of Scorpio, Taurus, Leo or Aquarius, you can expect to feel the influence of this eclipse quite strongly as it brings something in your life to an irrevocable and possibly surprising conclusion.

To some degree, that's true for the rest of you as well, because not only is this eclipse in the sign of radical transformation, but it is opposite Uranus. This suggests that the manner of a conclusion or ending could come about in an extreme way or through a "never saw it coming" event.

But with Mercury retrograde, will it happen now?

Generally speaking, when Mercury is retrograde during a new moon, full moon or any type of eclipse, events related to the lunation are delayed until after Mercury goes direct AND a transiting planet triggers the eclipse point by making a hard aspect to it.

In this case, Mercury goes direct on May 14 at 11:12 PM, and it is completely out of the post-retrograde shadow on May 31.

Planetary Trigger

From June 13-14, transiting Mars (action) will square the eclipse point.

If you experience an event around the time of the eclipse, its activation could bring an additional event that will likely be related to the first.

And, if you didn't experience an event around the time it happens, it's very likely that you will experience one around this time.

Getting Personal

So which life areas are being targeted by this eclipse in your life? They're revealed by the house in your horoscope that's receiving the lunar eclipse.

If you don't know which house holds exactly 14°58' of Scorpio in your horoscope, you can refer to the list below to find out where the new moon falls according to your rising sign (if you know it). If you don't know your rising sign, then refer to the list below according to your solar (sun-sign based) horoscope.

If your Sun sign is:

Aries, it falls in your solar 8th house of intimacy, other people's money and support, jointly-held assets and transformation.

Taurus, it falls in your solar 7th house of lawsuits and one-to-one relationships.

Gemini, it falls in your solar 6th house of work, health, service and pets.

Cancer, it falls in your solar 5th house of romance, children, creativity.

Leo, it falls in your solar 4th house of home, family, real estate, parents and intuition.

Virgo, it falls in your solar 3rd house of siblings, short trips, transportation and all types of communications.

Libra, it falls in your solar 2nd house of money, income, values and self-worth.

Scorpio, it falls in your solar 1st house - it's all about you, including your approach to life and physical appearance.

Sagittarius, it falls in your solar 12th house of solitude, secrets, past lives, healing and psychic abilities.

Capricorn, it falls in your solar 11th house of goals, casual friends, colleagues and group relationships.

Aquarius, it falls in your solar 10th house of career, status and fame.

Pisces, it falls in your solar 9th house of foreign travel, higher education, legal matters and publishing.

Releasing with the Scorpio Full Moon

You can set release anything under any full moon but when it's a lunar eclipse and saturated in Scorpio energy, it is especially favorable for releasing:

Negative beliefs or fears related to intimacy, trust or shared resources, power, control, death, psychic matters or the ability to transform one's circumstances.

Traits or tendencies to be obsessive, cruel, controlling, vindictive, jealous, secretive, compulsive, vicious or paranoid.

TRANSITING VENUS IN CANCER

May 7 - June 5, 2023

After several weeks of non-stop activity in Gemini, it was time for Venus to check out of the sign of perpetual motion and into the cozy, soothing and nurturing abode that the Cancer calls home.

Thanks to her rulership of Taurus, Venus has an earthy side that enjoys a comfortable home, hearty meals and well-stocked cupboards. Although she appreciates comfort foods, Venus in Cancer will never be a domestic goddess like the Moon because the she-crab’s aprons are a bit too rustic for her style.

Still, while she’s immersed in this domestic and family-oriented sign, she shares many of the Crab’s values. Consequently, she may find herself browsing the real estate section, reading home and garden magazines and daydreaming about the pitter-patter of little feet.

That's why during this time many of you will feel more inclined to stay indoors, focus on home improvement projects or spend time with your families.

When it comes to love, Venus can be flirty and hard to pin down, but while she's in Cancer she’s devoted, steadfast and in it for the long haul. She can also be possessive and more than a bit clingy, which is why despite her good intentions, she can make independent and self-sufficient types feel smothered. However, for those who can appreciate such attention, Venus in Cancer can be an ideal partner.

Like Venus, during this time many of you assess our relationships through the eyes of longevity, and if you like what you see, will make a deeper commitment to them.

As the planetary ruler of money, Venus has a strong interest in finances. Since Cancer is a frugal sign, Venus thinks twice before splurging and believes in saving for a home, emergencies, retirement and numerous rainy days. She’s also extremely security-minded and will review her savings plans, reconsider her investment strategies and shop in bulk.

And while Venus is here, you can expect to follow her lead.

Since Cancer has some rulership over the past, Venus tends to be nostalgic whenever she visits the Crab.

Likewise, during this time you may find yourself reminiscing about old friends and former flames.

Just remember that if the past starts tapping on your shoulder or tugging on your heart, it’s perfectly fine to go back for a visit as long as you remember that memory lane tends to be littered with selective memories.

COMING UP

Although it doesn't enter Taurus until May 15, Jupiter's journey through the sign of the Bull is going to be very important for the world, as well as for you personally. So much so, that I will be talking about it in more than one newsletter, and it all starts next week!

Until then,

May Jupiter's blessings be your constant companion,

Debra Anne Clement
