Dear Stargazers,

With the summer solstice just days away, it's time to say Happy Birthday to those of you born under Cancer. With Jupiter moving into Scorpio this fall, you can expect your life to expand. How so? You'll find out in the year-ahead forecast that will appear in the July 2 issue. Meanwhile, I've included a link below to an article I wrote a few years back celebrating your sign. I hope you enjoy it!

Since today is Father's Day (and a happy one to all who celebrate!), I thought it fitting to write about finding dad in the horoscope, but once I started it became an article about finding parents in the horoscope. By no means is this a lesson on delineating parents in the horoscope, but for those of you who are students of natal astrology, I hope it provides insight into finding and describing parents in today's modern times.

New Moon Advisory

On the day of any new moon it's common to see social media posts reminding everyone to set their intentions and/or perform manifestation rituals. However, these posts typically omit a piece of information that's vital to the success of any manifestation ritual; specifically, the exact time of the new moon.

Why is this so important? Because if you set your intentions or perform your rituals to attract something into your life before the new moon occurs - and especially if you do so within the hours preceding it - you're doing so during the period known as the dark of the moon which is a very powerful time for releasing or banishing things from your life.

There are many reasons why new moon intentions may fail to germinate, but if you've had limited success with your new moon rituals, this might be the reason.

That's why I always give you the exact time of every lunation, and since this month's new moon occurs at 10:31 PM EDT, I thought it appropriate to remind you that when it comes to astrology, timing (truly) is everything!
PLANETARY FORECAST
JUNE 19 - JULY 2, 2017

PLANETARY EVENTS

June 21:  Sun Enters Cancer (Summer Solstice)
June 23:  New Moon in Cancer

BEST DAYS

While there are other days during this time frame that are fine, these are the best of the bunch. What do I mean by the best? The energy is flowing, the moon isn't void and there's a greater likelihood for happy and/or productive outcomes.

JUNE 20, 24, 26

BEST AVOIDED

The energies on these days aren't favorable for new ventures or any activity where you want or need a definite result. If you must schedule something, you may have to think on your feet, or there may be a need for patience or flexibility.

THE LONGEST DAY OF THE YEAR:
THE SUMMER SOLSTICE

In the northern hemisphere, the summer solstice occurs when the Sun enters Cancer. As it announces summer, it represents the mid-year point, and as such, it signals a time for you to pause and ask yourself what you've been doing for the past six months.

Did you accomplish anything, or did you just tread water?
Are you headed in the direction of your dreams, or have you been drifting along and hoping that fate would intervene, sweep you up in its current and deposit you where you want to be.

Just like mid-life, the summer solstice is a reminder that while there are still a substantial number of days left on this year's calendar, the clock is ticking.

So take some time to evaluate life as you’ve lived it so far this year. If you’re not satisfied, then resolve to make meaningful changes.
With six months still ahead, there’s ample time for a new beginning and the achievement of some, if not all, of your goals.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY, CANCER!

The Ram, the Bull, the Lion and the Scorpion. Each one is powerful, intimidating and even deadly in its own way.
And then there’s the Crab. While it’s true that its pincers can cause excruciating pain, the Crab does not inspire awe or fear as does a charging ram, a raging bull, a crouching lion or a crawling scorpion.

Crabs are scavengers, not predators, and the only things they seem to inspire are salivary glands. Still, these temperamental creatures are well recognized for their combative ways. The males are known for fighting other males to gain access to lady crabs, and all crabs seem to bicker over the best hiding places on the beach. >>Read More.
NEW MOON at 2°47' CANCER
June 23, 2017 | 10:31 PM
Washington, DC

The closest aspect to this month's new moon is a conjunction with Mercury, the planet that rules the mind and rational thought. While in Cancer, Mercury's intellect works hand in hand with the Crab's intuition making this new moon an especially sensitive one that encourages you to listen to your own inner voice.

It also supports discussions that can promote a new understanding, inspire new ideas or result in new agreements. If you're in the market to buy or lease a new car or other vehicle or are looking for a new home or office, the energy of this new moon may help bring you bring this to fruition.

The placement of this new moon is also important, and as it happens, it falls in the 5th house which suggests some of you may experience a new beginning related to romance, children or some type of creative self-expression. The house rulerships of the Sun, Moon and Mercury in this chart also place an emphasis on romance and children, as well as on committed relationships and intimacy.

Although widely separating from the new moon (10°) and Mercury (7°), the planet Mars (which rules the 3rd house of communications, transportation and agreements in this chart) is squaring (provoking action from) Jupiter. In this chart, Jupiter is related to hopes and wishes, and its placement in the 8th house brings in the potential for intimacy/pregnancy.

Now, the 8th house is also a financial house, and it just happens to preside over loans or mortgage agreements, which are usually connected to the lease or purchase of a vehicle or a residence.

Consequently, this Mars/Jupiter aspect also supports matters connected to real estate as well as relationships and children.

Although this month's lunation chart seems to strongly green light such activities, it's worthwhile to note that the new moon/mercury conjunction creates a quincunx to the Ascendant. Although a minor aspect, it suggests you could second-guess a decision or a slight adjustment or compromise may be necessary in order to make your wish come true.
Getting Personal

So which life areas are being targeted in your life for a new beginning? They're revealed by the horoscope house that's hosting this new moon in your chart. If you don't know which house holds 2°47' Cancer in your horoscope, you can refer to the list below to find out where the new moon falls in your solar (sun-sign based) chart.

If your Sun sign is:

Aries, it falls in your 4th house (home, family, real estate, parents).

Taurus, it falls in your solar 3rd house (siblings, neighbors, short trips, cars, contracts, negotiations.).

Gemini, it falls in your 2nd house (income/spending, tangible assets, values, self-esteem).

Cancer, it falls in your 1st house (your physical body, attitude towards life).

Leo, it falls in your 12th house (spirituality, creativity, mental health, addictions).

Virgo, it falls in your 11th house (groups, associations, hopes, casual friends, colleagues).

Libra, it falls in your 10th house (career, fame, status, reputation).

Scorpio, it falls in your 9th house (education, law, religion, foreign and long-distance travel, publishing).

Sagittarius, it falls in your 8th house (intimacy, shared resources, other people's support, birth, death, estate matters).

Capricorn, it falls in your 7th house (marriage and all one-to-one relationships including best friends, adversaries, business partners and clients).

Aquarius, it falls in your 6th house (health, work, pets, diet, nutrition).

Pisces, it falls in your 5th house (romance, children, creative self-expression, entertainment).

Manifesting with the Cancer New Moon

You can set an intention for any type of new beginning under any new moon, but when it's infused with Cancer energy, it's especially favorable for:

Actions and affirmations to
expand your intuitive gifts, nurture your family relationships, promote pregnancy and improve, buy, sell or lease real estate.
FINDING DAD IN THE HOROSCOPE

If Mom is represented by the Moon, which planet signifies Dad?

That's a matter of opinion. Some astrologers say the Sun; others say Saturn, and still others believe the Sun represents the father of a person born during the day while Saturn is the father for those born at night.

Personally, I believe Saturn represents the father, and its placement as aspects describes your perception of Dad and your relationship with him.

Why? Well, besides the fact that it's always worked for me, parents are also described by the 4th and 10th houses of the horoscope, which is known as the parental axis. In the natural horoscope, the 4th house is ruled by Cancer and the Moon and the 10th house is ruled by Capricorn and Saturn. Since the Moon is designated as Mom, it's only logical that Saturn would signify Dad.

However, it's not always clear cut. After all, nowadays many children are raised by two dads or two moms. How are they described in the chart? Does one look to the Moon and Venus for two moms and perhaps Mars and Saturn for two dads?

Nope. Same-sex parents are also described by the Moon, Saturn and the parental axis.

Here's why: Parental titles were given to parents ages ago based on their roles. "Mamma" goes back to the 1500's and was given to the parent who stayed home and nurtured (breast-fed) the child (in Latin, mamma meant teat or breast), while his/her father provided economic support for the family and basically owned them. (Thank goodness for changing times!)

In astrology, the Moon, along with Cancer, rules the breast which is why the 4th house is associated with the mother or nurturing parent. Saturn, along with Capricorn, rules authority, which is why the 10th house is associated with the authoritative parent

Although sex-based parental titles (i.e., mom and dad) are still embraced by heterosexual parents, times have changed. As evidenced by stay-at-home dads and divorced/unmarried parents who alternate physical custody, though their titles may be traditional, their roles have become fluid. When analyzing charts for children born since 2000, it's become quite common to see a more authoritative Moon and a much softer Saturn.

When it comes to children of same-sex parents, it's makes no difference if it's two moms or two dads. The child's horoscope will describe one as more nurturing, and the other as more authoritative.

That said, when analyzing the charts of children with same-sex parents, I've often observed that the moon and/or 4th house ruler (if it's two dads) or Saturn and/or the 10th house ruler (if it's two moms) fell in the child's12th house and/or in hard aspect to Neptune. A 12th house placement of a parental indicator (as well as the hard aspect to Neptune) is a common indicator that the child didn't know that parent (the parent wasn't emotionally or physically available for some reason).  One placement or aspect doesn't always seal deal, and there are often other indicators as well, but so far this is the one that's been the most common.

No matter what the parental story may be, the natal chart will always reflect the parental circumstances chosen by the soul as part of its earthly experience.

However, it's clear to me that when analyzing parents in the horoscopes of those born since 2000 (and perhaps before), it's no longer about the title; it's about the role
Children's Charts

While I don't offer a natal interpretation of an infant/child's horoscope on my website, I routinely so upon request. However, my analysis focuses primarily on parenting guidance. In other words, it's not a detailed chart analysis; rather, it provides you with specific insights that will help you better understand, communicate and support your child on his/her earthly journey.

Such insights may include:
  • Your child's emotional reactions, temperament and security needs and how best to soothe and comfort so he/she feels safe.
  • Mental processes. How he/she learns, thinks, processes and communicates, so you can better understand each other and support his/her education.
  • Talents / abilities that should be encouraged and developed.
  • Personality traits that may need to be addressed (e.g., anger, tantrums).
  • If I see the potential for any developmental or health issues (e.g. allergies), I will bring it up so you're aware of it and if it manifests, you can be ready to nip it in the bud.
  • Any major issue or life lesson so you can support his/her soul as they learn it.
  • Forecasting is typically not included in an infant/child's chart; however, if I see something coming up that I feel is significant and necessary for you to know, I'll share it.
The standard fee for an infant/child's natal chart is $175.00 for 45-50 minutes. If you have more than one child, you may split the session between two children but you must provide me some specific questions about each child beforehand. If you're interested in purchasing such a reading, please email me.

I also read teen-agers charts and will answer some forecasting questions during a session. Again, for more information, please email me.

Until next time,

May Jupiter's blessings be your constant companion,
