for a juried art exhibition,
 SMALL IS THE NEW BIG
A small piece of work can be more impactful than a large one
April 9 – May 7, 2020



ENTRY INSTRUCTIONS
Open to artist 18 years and over living in the United States. Original art in any two-dimensional or three-dimensional media no larger than 14 inches by 16 inches including frame, created in the last 2 years and not exhibited previously at Rene Soto Gallery, including: painting, fiber art, mixed-media, photography, drawing, printmaking, pastels, and 3D bas-relief artwork created to be hung on a wall is eligible. Sculpture is accepted only if the artist supplies their own stand or the work is free standing.

JUROR - David Green 
Executive Director of the Cultural Alliance of Fairfield County, David Green has a history of bringing artists together with their public. Working with the British American Arts Association in London and New York, he ran his own nonprofit, British Arts in New York, and managed the Artists Fellowship Program at the New York Foundation for the Arts for 5 years. David was founding executive director of the National Initiative for a Networked Cultural Heritage, a national advocacy nonprofit creating common ground for librarians, educators, museum directors, artists, scholars and technologists (1996-2004).. Since 2013 he has been steeped in promoting the artistic and cultural life of Fairfield County at the Cultural Alliance, bringing artists, cultural nonprofits and creative businesses together as partners in the creative economy. David graduated from Brown University with a PhD in American Studies, focused on the intersections of American Modernist painting, architecture, poetry and fiction. 

DATES
  • Deadline for Entries: March 16, 2020
  • Notification of Jury Results: March 26, 2020
  • Drop off Dates: April 6, 12-2pm, April 7, 4-6pm, April 8, 12-3pm
  • Shipped Artwork to be received no later than April 6
  • Show Date: April 9-May 7, 2020
  • Opening Reception: Saturday, April 11, 6-9pm
  • Pick up Dates: May 8, 1-6pm, May 9, 12-4pm
  • There will be a $20 per day storage fee for artwork not picked up by May 9.
SIZE AND WEIGHT
Dimensions not to exceed 16 inches by 14 inches, including frame. All work must be suitably wired and ready for hanging. No sawtooth hangers. Works on paper must be framed under plexiglass or glass. Three-dimensional pieces must not exceed 20 pounds and 16 inches high, 14 inches wide and 14 inches deep. Work exceeding these dimensions will not be accepted.

NOTE
Accepted work may be refused if it does not conform to the entered image. Absolutely NO SUBSTITUTIONS of accepted works will be allowed. All accepted work must remain in the gallery for the duration of the exhibition.

COMMISSION
The gallery will take 40% commission on any work sold.
IMAGE REQUIREMENTS
  • File format: JPEG only
  • File dimensions: No smaller than 1920 pixels on the longest side
  • File size: 3 MB maximum JPEG images
ENTRY FEE
A non-refundable fee of $35.00 for up to 3 entries, $5 for each additional entry over 3 up to 6 entries.

Multiple entries from the same artist must be submitted at the same time to take advantage of the lowered additional entry fee. Artists are responsible for all shipping costs both ways. Pre-paid return shipping slip and reusable shipping box required for all shipped artwork. Must be shipped by FedEx or UPS. NO PACKING PEANUTS.

Your entry will not be valid until payment is received.

AWARDS
Awards will be given for Best in Show, Second and Third Place and Honorable Mention.
