Subject: ALERT Alumni | Disaster Relief Opportunity

Hello again to our alumni:

Last week a team of guys, working alongside Samaritans Purse returned from Durant, MS after several days of cleanup work from a tornado that passed through there a couple of weeks ago. The town of Durant is located in the poorest county of Mississippi and it goes without saying that the need is great, but the laborers are somewhat limited.

More importantly than the work itself however, is the concentrated effort that SP has in place to present the gospel to every homeowner that is served. If the onsite laborers themselves are unable to do so each home receives a follow-up visit from the Billy Graham chaplains who encourage those affected by the storm as well as giving the message of hope for eternity.

I’d like to challenge our alumni to consider giving a few days in volunteer efforts if your schedule allows. Many of the volunteers that are already there are of the age where climbing ladders and laying tarp or moving heavy logs is not in the mix and they really could use some younger bucks to come to their aid.

So, pull out your old blue T-shirts (they’ll issue you an orange one if you’re into that color), throw on some beat up BDU’s and re-invest your skills into the lives of others. I will warn you though that wearing blue will probably result in the bar being raised and expectations being a bit higher since we have developed a great working relationship with Samaritans.

If you have questions please feel free to email or call me. If you are planning on overnighting with them you must register with Samaritan’s Purse online before joining up so make sure you go their website and take care of this ahead of time. Day volunteers can sign up on site. Overnighting not only provides housing for you at no cost but also includes some fantastic meals. If tornado work isn’t your thing or it’s a bit of a distance for you, consider helping at the Doniphan, MO site doing flood relief. It looks like the Doniphan site will be open until May 27. At this point we’re hoping to send at least one more team out to either Durant or Doniphan near the end of the month. If you would like to join us let me know and I’ll keep you posted on our plans. God bless and have a great week.
