Subject: The Black Eagle Chick Has Hatched 🐣

New Life in the Nest!

We're excited to share that the Black Eagle (Verreaux’s Eagle) eaglet has hatched, marking the start of an incredible journey high on the cliffside.

While only one chick remains in the nest, this is typical for this species. Though two eggs were laid, we observed the parent consuming one - likely non-viable. In nature, only one chick usually survives, as the older sibling would eliminate the younger shortly after hatching.

This behaviour, while difficult to watch, is a natural part of eagle life and ensures the strongest chick gets the care and food it needs.

🦅 Fledging is expected around 97 days from hatching, so we have a front-row seat to watch this young eagle grow, develop, and eventually take flight!
