Subject: 4th Sunday of Advent

reFresh Advent Reflections 2014
Luke 2
"In those days a decree went out from Emperor Augustus that all the world should be registered.
All went to their own towns to be registered.
Joseph also went from the town of Nazareth in Galilee to Judea, to the city of David called Bethlehem, because he was descended from the house and family of David.  He went to be registered with Mary, to whom he was engaged and who was expecting a child.
While they were there, the time came for her to deliver her child. And she gave birth to her firstborn son and wrapped him in bands of cloth, and laid him in a manger, because there was no room for them in the inn."

"Let every heart prepare Him room" is a phrase we sing or read often during this season.
We prepare room for Him in our lives. We set aside time to be intentional this Advent season. We ponder the mysteries of all being welcomed to the manger. We actively seek to let go of the things that are keeping us from rejoicing this season.

Now we are just days away from the day we set aside year after year to celebrate the birth of our Saviour. Are we prepared? I don't mean do we have all the gifts wrapped and cookies baked. I mean are our hearts prepared for this celebration?

Will we be able to celebrate regardless of the circumstances we are assaulted with? Will we be celebrating even if things don't go how we desired or expected? Will we celebrate even if no one else around is celebrating the real reason for this season?

Let every heart prepare Him room.

4th Sunday of Advent
~A Prayer~

“O creator God, Our world is pregnant with the anticipation of the birth of your Son. We are bursting in our preparedness, for the feast of Christmas will soon be here.
Everything seems to be in order: the plans are agreed to, the tree is decorated, most of the gifts are wrapped, and we think we are ready.
However,
Lord, as we pause to offer this prayer, we realize that some things have been rushed, and, in the process, some important things have been forgotten.

In this brief moment of quiet, help us to be at least thankful. Help us to appreciate the Word that comes to dwell with us. Help us to hope in the promise of His way, truth, and life. Help us to join with the angels who sing your praise. Grant us the lasting peace of this great season of joy.

We pray in the name of our long-expected Lord. Amen.”
Intentional reflections:
Think for a moment of the most joyous experience you have had in your life thus far.
Does it bring a smile to your face? Consider what expression is on your face when you think of Christmas? Is it joy? Not necessarily that everything is going well, but joy that our Saviour is born!

With eyes closed and face lifted up to the Saviour,
Ask Him to reveal to you where your
"shoulds" ( I should make another batch of cookies)
and
"oughts" (I ought to work another shift)
are trying to steal your joy.
As each thing, place, thought, person or task comes to mind, lift your hands to the Lord in an offering of "it's Yours Lord"

As you proceed into the coming week... be aware...are you celebrating this momentous occasion?
