October 18, 2023

ADFF:NY was a great success. We love our new venue in the East Village. The festival felt like it did before the pandemic, with packed houses of engaged audience members. Scroll to the bottom of this newsletter for ADFF:NY photos.

ADFF:Toronto (presented by Eventscape) is November 1-4, and will feature many Canadian Premieres. We'll have an opening night party at Paris Texas and a closing night party after the final screening. Some festival highlights include...

My Architect (20th Anniversary)

11/4 @ 5:15 + Q&A with CBC host Mary Weins and Director Nathaniel Kahn

2003 / 116 min / USA

Director: Nathaniel Kahn

My Architect is arguably the most significant film in our niche genre of architecture and design. This year is the 20th anniversary of the film’s release, and we have a new digitally remastered version that looks better than ever. Not to be missed on the big screen.

Rehab (From Rehab) (Canadian Premiere)

11/3 @ 6:15 + Q&A with Esther Cheng, moderated by Terri Peters

2023 / 90 min / France and Italy

Directors: Louise Lemione and Ila Beka

Renowned directors Louise Lemione and Ila Beka are back with another incredible story to tell. Through a series of vignettes of patients going through physical rehabilitation at Swiss Architects Herzog & De Meuron’s REHAB center in Basel, Rehab (from rehab) demonstrates how a building itself can contribute to patients’ recovery stories.

Best in the World (Canadian Premiere)

11/4 @ 12:30 + Q&A with Karen Kubey and Chiyi Tam, moderated by Stefan Novakovic

2022 / 56 min / Denmark

Director: Hans Christian Post

Copenhagen is widely considered one of the world’s most livable cities, but it wasn’t always this way. Best in the World offers a closer look at the Danish capital’s journey from an industrial city on the brink of bankruptcy to the transformed Copenhagen of today. Celebrated writer and filmmaker Hans Christian Post takes stock of the cost of this transformation, examining inequity within the city’s borders and in the surrounding countryside.

ADFF:Vancouver will take place November 9-12. We have amazing speakers slated to attend, including LOT-EK Founding Partners Ada Tolla and Giuseppe Lignano at opening night. We'll have more information for you soon but in the meantime, check out a few other exciting screenings with speakers below.

The Power of Utopia – Living with Le Corbusier in Chandigarh (Vancouver Premiere)

11/11 @ 4:15 + Conversation with Vikram Prakāsh

2023 / 84 min / Switzerland

Directors: Karin Bucher and Thomas Karrer

When architect Le Corbusier designed Chandigarh, he imagined a just city that would allow for harmonious interaction between its residents and the natural environment. His utopic vision for the city came into being 70 years ago at a time of unrest, resettlement, and the partition of India. For some, it represented progress and a newly emerged democracy, but it remains unclear if Corbusier’s design was a success or a failure.

Arthur Erickson's Dyde House (Vancouver Premiere)

11/11 @ 2:15 + Conversation moderated by Trevor Brody

2023 / 54 min / Canada

Directors: Colin Waugh

Nestled among the aspen parkland of Alberta, a hidden masterpiece by one of Canada's most celebrated architects has been found. Arthur Erickson’s Dyde House tells the story of an undiscovered piece of history and the architects fighting for its future.
