The festival is off to a great start! We have a weekend full of great films and talks. Don't miss Sunday morning Go-go brunch with the TOB band.


Saturday Jan 28th

Tonight we have another packed program of exciting films. Since two of the films highlight the exciting world of sustainable fashion, we've invited local vendors to host a pop-up market in the Great Hall. Visitors can purchase a one-of-a-kind piece from Tribute Collective, Bitter Grace, or Illicit Rag Vintage. Food and drink will be available between the screening blocks.


Saturday Screenings, Early Screeings

6:00 PM: A World to Shape

The new generation of contemporary Dutch Designers is acutely aware that raw materials are depleting, energy is scarce, and globalization is driving new forms of small-scale production.

After the screening - A sustainable fashion panel featuring Rebecca Ballard (Founder/Owner, The Fashion Connection and Maven Women), Joelle Firzli (Co-Founder, Tribute Collective), and Marianna Sachse (Founder, Jackalo).

6:15 PM: Building Bastille! The Tangled and Improbable story of the Opera Bastille

This film tells the comedic, dramatic, and tangled story of modern history’s most remarkable case of mistaken identity and seized opportunity.

6:30 PM: Under Tomorrow's Sky

Renowned architect and urbanist Winy Maas is passionate about finding innovative solutions for the city of the future. Under Tomorrow’s Sky explores how his designs can keep cities compact and livable.

Saturday Screenings, Late Screenings

8:30 PM: Fashion Reimagined

This film follows Amy Powney, designer of the London brand Mother of Pearl and the daughter of environmental activists, as she sets out to create a collection that’s ethical and sustainable at every level.

8:45 PM: Concrete Landscape

A narrative view of the life of Portuguese architect Alvaro Siza. This film highlights small strokes of remarkable moments that have changed and influenced his work and daily life.

9:00 PM: GES-2

In 2014, the Renzo Piano Building Workshop was tasked by V–A–C Foundation to transform GES-2, a 20,000-square-meter former power plant in Moscow, into a new, global cultural institution.

Sunday Jan 29th

On Sunday, we have ADFF's first ever Go-go brunch, featuring beloved local band TOB. Visitors will also experience a pop-up exhibition of photographer Dee Dwyer's work that documents the people and culture of Southeast DC.


Sunday Screenings, Early Screening:

12:00 PM: Barry Farm: Community, Land and Justice in Washington, DC

The story of Barry Farm, the site of one of DC’s first thriving Black communities, later a public housing complex, now under redevelopment.

+ A conversation with the film's co-directors Samuel George and Sabiyha Prince, community partner Coleman Hall, and DC Preservation League Vice President Dr. Greta Fuller.

Sunday Screenings, Late Screening:

2:30 PM: Bawa's Garden

A road movie in search of the work of renowned Sri Lankan architect Geoffrey Bawa. This film follows a protagonist scouring the island for the ‘lost’ garden of Lunuganga.

2:45 PM: Alice Street

In case you missed the Thursday screening! Alice Street is the story of a community of artists and activists in an Oakland neighborhood who come together to battle gentrification and save a beloved mural.

3:00 PM: Segregated by Design and Committee of Six (Double Feature)

In case you missed the Friday screening! The films in this double feature examine the discriminatory practice of redlining and its impact on black communities.

ADFF:DC is presented with the National Building Museum and the Revada Foundation of the Logan Family.
