ADFF:2020 tickets are now on sale! This year’s virtual festival will showcase 17 film programs that can be watched from anywhere in the United States and Canada — on your computer, tablet or phone ... or with Apple TV or Roko TV.
Films can be watched anytime from November 19th at 5:00pm EST through December 3rd at 11:59 EST. Once you begin watching a film program you will have 48 hours to finish watching the program. Included in each film program will be additional content including special introductions prior to the film and Q&A’s with those involved afterwards. Ticket Pricing General admission tickets: $10 Fistful (5 tickets): $40 All Access pass (allows you to watch each film one time): $110 Student discounts are available to those with an active student ID.
Purchase tickets before November 1st and receive early bird discounts. Gift Certificates are also available so your friends and family within the US and Canada can share in the experience. AALTO is a captivating journey into the life and work of one of the greatest modern architects, Alvar Aalto. The film shares for the first time the intimate love story of the Finnish architect and his wife, Aino Aalto, and highlights her importance as an equal architect, colleague and visionary designer. The modern, sophisticated and liberal couple, who married in 1924, co-designed many buildings around the world and the film takes us on a cinematic tour of their creative processes and iconic buildings, including a library in Russia, a student dormitory at MIT, an art collector’s private house near Paris, and a pavilion in Venice. The film's director Virpi Suutari said, “I realized that no one is great alone and this film highlights the key roles of Aino Aalto — and Alvar’s second architect wife, Elissa — as well as the artisans and other architects who worked in the office.”

Escher: Journey Into Infinity, narrated by Stephen Fry, is the story of world famous Dutch graphic artist M.C Escher and is based on more than 1,000 letters, diaries and lectures he wrote during his lifetime. We hear him speak in his own words, about his life, his fears, doubts, politics, work, and the amazement he encounters time and time again. The film travels to sites that were major inspirations for him.
While Escher speaks, the camera records what he sees, as if it was his eye! Two of his sons, George, 92, and Jan, 80, reminisce about their parents. Additionally, musician Graham Nash (Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young) talks about the rediscovery of Escher’s work in the 70’s. The film looks at Escher’s legacy and how his work continues to inspire comic strips, advertisements, movies, etc. and draws massive visitors worldwide to exhibitions of his art.

Language: English and Danish with English Subtitles This "cinematic construction site symphony" follows Bjarke Ingels Group (BIG) through the uphill battles and processes of conceiving, planning and building the world’s cleanest waste-to-energy plant in Copenhagen. Known for its iconic ski slope, which sits directly on top of the plant, this award-winning project combines modern waste management infrastructure with spectacular architecture and a recreational urban space. Making a Mountain takes viewers behind the scenes, starting from the plant’s visionary beginnings to abrasions from the artificial snow, to the first trip down the back slope.

Tokyo Ride is a charming freeform portrait of Ryūe Nishizawa, one of Japan’s most influential architects and partner at the renowned architectural firm SANAA. While on a road trip throughout Tokyo with Nishizawa, the two filmmakers discover the temples, restaurants, cafes and houses he designed and discuss life in the city, Japanese culture and European history, film, music, and the process of turning an idea into a building.
The complete work of this iconic filmmaking duo, including Tokyo Ride, has been acquired by the Museum of Modern Art (MoMA) for its permanent collection.
