Subject: ADFF launches our 2025/26 season!

September 3, 2025

ADFF is thrilled to launch our 17th season. In challenging times like these, we remember the power of art as a change-maker. As a festival dedicated to the brilliance of architects, designers, artists, and filmmakers, we hope to provide a small part of that vital inspiration.

We have another exceptional lineup of the best new design films from around the world. This season we have films focusing on design luminaries like Gerrit Rietveld, Sigurd Lewerentz, Enric Miralles, the Harvard Five (Johnson, Johansen, Gores, Noyes, and Breuer), and the Campana Brothers. We have three films on the creative fringes of the design/build process, as well as films on urban planning and active furniture design. If that's not enough, we also have incredible speakers and special events. Spending time with ADFF is spending time in creative community—trust us, you don't want to miss it.

Save the dates! This season, ADFF will hold seven festivals along with several special screenings.

Identity: A Czech Graphic Design Love Story

2024 / 85 min / Czech Republic / US Premiere

Directors: Kateřina Mikulcova and Petr Smelik

Our opening night film is a delightful travel romp. In Identity: A Czech Graphic Design Love Story, auctioneer and appraiser Nicholas Lowry takes us on a journey across the Czech Republic to understand how graphic design shapes the way we think, feel, and live.

Following the screening, Nicholas Lowry will be in conversation with Debbie Millman, host of the wildly popular podcast Design Matters.

Changing Lanes

2025 / 73 min / US / World Premiere

Director: Ben Wolf

After a beloved teacher is tragically killed in a hit-and-run accident in Greenpoint, Brooklyn, a grassroots movement emerges to transform a notoriously dangerous four-lane boulevard into a safer, two-lane street with protected bike lanes. The film situates this local struggle within broader historical, environmental, political, and social contexts through interviews with politicians, activists, urban planners, entrepreneurs, and cultural icons like David Byrne and Janette Sadik-Khan. Changing Lanes makes a compelling call to action for democracy at the street level.

Oct 17 - with Q&A with Ben Wolf and Janette Sadik-Khan, moderated by NYT Architecture Critic Michael Kimmelman

Miralles

2024 / 90 min / Spain / US Premiere

Director: Maria Mauti

In Spain, Enric Miralles’ name carries the weight of an architectural legend, but he remains lesser known in other parts of the world. This film looks back on 11 of his most significant projects, from the emotionally resonant Igualada Cemetery, where he is now buried, to the Scottish Parliament in Edinburgh, a masterpiece he never saw completed.
