Legends of America Newsletter - October 2017 |
| | Did you know that candy corn and peanuts tastes just like a payday candy bar? That's my stash of the mix, along with a Coke (Kathy calls it Coke-de-doke, but that's another dorky story altogether). This was taken back on Tuesday October 3, right before I hit enter to make our new website design official.
I would like to say that months of planning went off without a hitch, but it was a bit of a 'mixed stash' as well. Afterall, we took a 14 year old website and turned it on it's head, which I equate with ripping off 14 years of bandaids and starting fresh. It's been a busy couple of weeks fixing all the broken links we didn't catch before the move, but we're making some great progress. Overall I'd give us a 'B+' on planning and an 'A' on the right snack for the job. You may still run into a broken link here or there, and for that we sincerely apologize. This page here has some tips on getting to where you were going.
So phase one of our project is complete, getting the most important pages done. Phase two will continue over the next several months as we convert all the rest of the old pages to the new design. Progress as of Sunday was 1,451 pages converted.. 2,136 pages to go. Of course, that doesn't include new articles that we've been adding along the way, and we have quite a few for you under What's New below. You'll still find the old articles, but they won't be as "mobile friendly" as the new ones until they've gone through the process. |
| Meanwhile, I've learned we aren't the only ones who go through a "refresh" of an old design. As many of you who have followed us know, back in 2014 Kathy made her television debut on the show "Evil Kin" talking about the Bloody Benders of Kansas. The show aired on the cable network Investigation Discovery (ID Channel). I had a friend let me know over the weekend that Kathy was talking about the Benders again, but this time the show was called "The Bloody Benders: American Serial Killers". Same Discovery Network channel, just a fresh coat of paint. So I guess it's possible we'll see her other television appearances revamped into new shows too. Who knows, Kathy could be still yakking on about Bat Masterson, Bill Doolin and Dallas Stoudenmire 20 years from now on a channel that doesn't even exist yet. Too bad she doesn't get any royalties for that stuff.

Luke Short's Last Gunfight - On December 23, 1890, Luke Short and Charles Wright were involved in a gunfight at the Bank Saloon in Fort Worth, Texas. Although he would survive, it would be Short’s last gunfight.

| | The Haunted Lemp Mansion in St. Louis

| | Said to be one of the ten most haunted places in America, the Lemp Mansion in St. Louis, Missouri, continues to play host to the tragic Lemp family.
