Subject: New CRIS Opportunities: Wildfire Support, Expert Call & More

Hi Friend,

Looking for ways to get involved with the CRIS? We’ve launched a new support stream for wildfire resilient infrastructure, opened our first place-based Cohort in Saskatchewan, and are making it easier than ever for local governments to get support. Plus, it’s your last day to apply to join our Roster of Experts! Learn more about our current opportunities below.

Free Wildfire Resilience Support for Public Buildings

With wildfire risks on the rise across Canada, the Climate Ready Infrastructure Service (CRIS) has launched a new stream of support to help local governments and Indigenous communities make public buildings safer and more resilient.

Communities under 30,000 can now access up to $20,000 in expert support to increase wildfire resilience for public infrastructure. This support includes tailored advice and technical options for fire-resilient design, materials, and indoor air quality for public buildings.

Design or retrofit projects approved in a capital or work plan are eligible for support. Public buildings that qualify include;

  • Community or Recreational Centres;

  • Libraries and Arts or Cultural Buildings;

  • Civic Centres Including Pools and Ice Rinks;

  • Community Housing;

  • Public Works and Maintenance Buildings;

  • Water Treatment Plants;

  • Fire Halls and Emergency Services Buildings, and more!

Register before August 31, 2025 to ensure your public buildings are protected from wildfire risk. Submit your project in as little as 15 minutes through our online form: click here to register your project!

Launching CRIS Cohorts!

Our new Cohort model brings together communities facing similar challenges—whether it’s climate hazards like flooding or wildfires, or infrastructure issues like aging facilities that need upgrades—with trusted place-based project partners and experts from our Roster.

We’re excited to launch our first place-based cohort to support Saskatchewan communities that are planning to upgrade or design ice rinks or arenas. In partnership with SUMA and Eco West Canada, this cohort will help explore best options for climate resilience, move projects forward efficiently, and prepare for future funding.

CRIS Sign Up Made Easy for Local Governments

The CRIS is designed to build capacity for local governments, not add to your administrative workload. That’s why we’ve streamlined our process to make it easier than ever to get support.

Participants can now fill out our new Registration form in as little as 15 minutes—no lengthy application process required. Just submit the online form, we’ll set up a quick intake meeting with your team, and the CRIS will coordinate the rest.

Plus: Stay up to date on the CRIS and find more resources on our blog!
