Hi Friend,
"So, Sara, I just want you to know that I told everyone at this gathering about how important the ReMembering Course is, and why they should take it."
I was talking with my friend Rachel, and we were debriefing about a gathering she had recently had a leadership role in.
Woah what? I thought to myself.
"Maybe not everyone," she corrected herself - words are very important to her - "but a lot of people."
"Wow, thank you..... I'm wondering, why did you do this?” Especially, I thought, since many of the people at that gathering already know something about the Doctrine of Discovery.
Here is what she said - and yes, she has looked over this text and given me permission to share this with all of you -
"It's really important. I've seen you, over the years, with this course. It's improved since I took it seven years ago, become more of a lifeway and less and less of an intellectual pursuit. You have grown, you have both more confidence and less ego. You've done the work, and you keep doing the work, and I see you keep doing the work. You have created something really unique, really yours, really not like anything else there. And this course has enabled me to take the information/knowledge and do my own thing with it, and to heal in my own way in my own community. My work is not to do your work."
"The remembering course is a place to look at, weave back together, and discard the fragmentary pieces of life on land that was stolen. It is a place to re-imagine what now can feel like and what the future can be. People of all backgrounds can benefit, because it is not about the knowledge you gain but letting the knowledge move through and find rest within your body at any given moment. That's a continual process. As you change, the process changes. At any point in your journey and your familiarity with this subject, at any point in living these truths - there's always space - for all of us, to welcome in what the ReMembering Course has to offer. When you think you don't need this course, that might be one of the times you need it the most.
But honestly, Sara, and this is something that I'm really ok for you to quote me on, nothing makes me more pissed off than someone who says they don't need the ReMembering Course. I'm like, are you a human? Do you live on this land? Do you eat food? Do you eat candy? Then yes, you need this course.
These histories of colonization, really everything that we talk about in the course, visit my body every day. I have to deal with it every day. So, don't tell me the history in this course, which relates directly to my body today, is not important." - Rachel Arlene Redeye Porter
Thank you. I'm - humbled. That I get to offer something that someone whom I admire as much as I do you finds so valuable.
The next ReMembering Cohort starts on Friday, Oct 25. Will you join us in it?
If you are drawn to this course and still sitting on the fence, do come to our next ReMembering Info Webinar Tomorrow Wednesday, Oct 23. Yes, it's recorded.
And for all of you who keep sharing about this course, and keep inviting your friends and siblings and cousins and colleagues and neighbors into it - thank you for that. I'm honored.
May we all deepen into the lifeways of ReMembering - both now all year round, as we return to finding ways of living not on time but in time.
I look forward to engaging with you on the journey.
- Sara Jolena
