I saw my mistake as soon as I read the email that went out to you this morning.

I did not consistently use the correct grammar or capitalization for Indigenous Peoples' Day.

It should be: capital I, capital P, capital D.

And: Peoples' is always plural, with an apostrophe.

The plural and the apostrophe are both really important (and we've seen lots of mistakes around this in the media).

There have been long arguments and struggles, including at the level of the United Nations, about both the plural and the apostrophe. The goal, here, is to be clear that there are many distinct Peoples', and we want to recognize and honor all of them.

In this case, this is not just about being "picky" about grammar: it's about using the tool of the written language as best as we can.
