Jumping for Joy with the T46Bs!

Some trips stand out as extraordinary, and this was one of those days! When viewing wildlife, a lot of luck is more about random timing -- you just never know when those special days are going to happen. Our April 10 trip from Edmonds had a multitude of wildlife sightings on a beautifully calm day, including 5 gray whales, California and Steller sea lions, and a bald eagle, but the highlight of our trip was finding a very playful T46B pod in Port Susan!

Sometimes breaching is contagious -- multiple killer whales had the breach vibe going when we arrived on-scene! T46B2B (Takaya) appeared to have the zoomies as she exhibited multiple breaches in a row during our visit with this prolific pod. Enjoy just a few of Takaya’s many breaches for joy on that amazing day!

Bon Voyage, Birdfest!

On April 13th, the Glacier Spirit set sail from Port Townsend for our annual 3-Day Birdwatching & Wildlife Cruise in partnership with Olympic Peninsula Birdfest 🦅 Day 1 saw passengers and guests head through Deception Pass where they encountered an abundance of cormorants; venture through Swinomish Slough with mergansers, harriers, and goldeneyes; and journey through the San Juans with an EPIC bait ball outside Upright Channel! The bait ball proved to be particularly exciting viewing, with rhinocerous auklets, gulls, and even a bald eagle grabbing herring in its talons! All in all, guests and crew spotted 43 individual species of bird on day one of their journey — we can’t wait to see what the rest of the trip has in store!
