A Great Season Getting Even Better!

It has been a terrific season of whale watching so far in 2025, with significant sightings of Bigg's orcas and gray whales in particular.

Now that we have started our main whale watching season with half day trips it allows us more time to explore for a greater variety of whales and wildlife in a wider range of locations. The gray whales are still here and there have been a lot of Bigg’s killer whales around too. As a result we have been able to see both orcas and gray whales on many of our recent trips.

We have been thrilled to have a few encounters with the T46B family of Bigg's orcas. This family of 7 now has a new 8th member! The new calf, T46B3A is the first offspring of T46B3, Sedna.

Speaking of youngsters, the newest member of the T100B family was just named this past week. T100B3 is known as "Selkie" and we were able to witness her family playfully tossing and rolling her during a recent encounter.

Our "Sounder" gray whales are still in Puget Sound and we've had truly great encounters with them. Over the last week many of the gray whales have moved into a great spot for us to see them gathered up and being social before they continue with their northward migrations.

Port Townsend All-day & Port Angeles Half-day Tours
Begin May 1 & May 10

Hello San Juan Island! Starting May 1, we begin service on our All-day San Juan Island Whale Watching Tour. This is our signature tour – the one that started it all decades ago. This tour features a 2 hour lunch stop on Friday Harbor on San Juan Island, making it the perfect trip for those looking to see the San Juan Islands. Just like our other tours, we guarantee you'll see whales. In fact, because we spend more time on the water than our Half-day tours, this tour often encounters more whales and wildlife than our shorter tours. It's the perfect combination of wildlife, and scenery – a true day trip adventure!

We're excited to start our 2025 Port Angeles Whale Watching season on May 10. Our half-day tour departs from Port Angeles Wharf downtown, and from there we head into the Strait of Juan de Fuca, visiting whale hot spots on both sides of the Strait, including Victoria, B.C. and Dungeness Spit. Port Angeles is our western-most departure location (the gateway to Olympic National Park), which puts it in the perfect position to see humpback whales, in addition to Bigg's killer whales.
