There is something that everyone is always looking for in life. Purpose. It wasn’t until I started working at Lakeview Ministries that I found that purpose. Outside of Lakeview I’ve had many different jobs, but none of them have been the same as working here.
I’ve been asked by many people why I serve at camp, and I always tell them that here at Lakeview I feel like I’m doing something that is worthwhile. I’m doing something that has meaning. Many don’t understand the joy it can bring when you put a smile on a camper’s face or when you wake up in the morning and step outside into God's creation or even seeing a monkey with noodle arms join you for worship. You get to work in God’s presence all day long. We are also given the opportunity to grow as Christians, spreading the love of God to all the families and groups that come out to camp.
Prior to working here as a program assistant, I was majoring in media at Ball State University and would work here as a camp counselor between academic years. Even though I said I would only do one year on summer staff I found myself always being pulled back to camp. And now, I'm currently serving a gap year here at camp, spending time serving God and growing in the calling he has created me for.
In Ephesians, Paul tells us that we were created to serve the Lord. God’s will for us is to do all things good. God has given all of us a purpose long before we were even born. God has chosen every single one of us to serve a unique purpose in life. When I think about what Paul says in Ephesians 2:10, it opens my eyes to the fact that God led me here to camp for a reason. To discover what God has called me to do.
But ultimately whatever it is that God has us doing, we should know that it is all for him and his will for us. We are his handiwork. We were created in his image to do good things. In Jeremiah it says that God’s purpose for us was decided long before we were born!
I thank God every day for sending me to Lakeview to make me a servant and find my purpose in life. |
