Subject: The Lakeview Insider: Meet Bill, our new Capital Development Director

plus an opportunity to serve at camp in October

“In My Father’s house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also.”

-John 14:2-3

CAMPFIRE THOUGHTS:
"Stacked Stones"

At Lakeview Springs, a beautiful transformation has taken place. As the Welcome Center continues to near completion, Jose (Operations Director) and his team have recently reached another significant milestone with the completion of the fireplace and chimney. Each stone they stacked was carefully chosen, placed with purpose, and fitted together to form something strong, enduring, and welcoming.

This fireplace is more than just a structure—it’s a symbol. Just as those stones were stacked one by one to build something lasting, so too has Lakeview Ministries been built up over the past 60 years. Each year, each summer, each camper, each staff member, each volunteer, each donor—each one has been a figurative stone in the foundation and growth of this ministry.

Think of the thousands of people who have prayed, served, given, and loved through Lakeview. Each one is a stone in the ministry God has been building here. And just like the chimney, these stones don’t stand alone. They are stacked together, supported by one another, forming a structure that points upward—toward Christ.

And that’s the key: Christ is the cornerstone.

Without Him, the structure crumbles. Without Him, the ministry loses its purpose. But with Christ as the cornerstone, every stone finds its place. Every person finds their purpose. Every act of service, every word of encouragement, every moment of worship becomes part of something eternal.

As we celebrate 60 years of ministry at Lakeview, we don’t just look back at what has been built—we look forward to what God is still building. And we remember that we are not just part of the camp family—we are part of God’s spiritual house, built on the foundation of His Word, with Christ Jesus Himself as the cornerstone.

Prayer:

Lord Jesus, thank You for being our cornerstone. Thank You for the many people You have used to build up Lakeview Ministries over the past 60 years. As we look at the stones of the fireplace at Lakeview Springs, remind us of the living stones You are stacking together in Your Church. Help lead us to our place in Your plan, and to build always on You. Amen.

In Him,

David "DAV" Vandercar

LAKEVIEW LOWDOWN:

Lakeview Is Taking On the Youth Gathering!

Hey pastors and youth leaders! If you're looking for a way to inject your high school student ministry with deeper faith, crazy-good fun, and even more meaningful connections, you won't want to miss Lakeview's upcoming AMPLIFY Senior High Youth Gathering. Formerly run through the Indiana District as IDYG, Amplify is a retreat designed to provide a major boost to the ministry already happening week by week with the high school students in your church.

RETREAT DETAILS:

  • Who: High school students and their youth leaders from the Indiana District

  • Where: Lakeview Ministries, Seymour, IN

  • When: November 7-9, 2025

  • Cost: $140/student

  • Registration: Go to lakeview.camp/amplify to sign up.

We've gotten to host the Youth Gathering at camp the past two years, and are looking forward to leaning into what camp does best: experiences of authentic community, real conversations, and lived out faith. When students step away from the everyday and into a fresh setting, walls come down and connections are built faster and stronger.

Lakeview staff will handle all the logistics so leaders can enjoy the weekend right alongside their students. “As a former church youth leader,” said Ellie "Frisbee" Lutz, “I know how valuable it is when leaders can simply be present with their students. We wanted to create something where leaders don't have to plan but can enjoy the weekend alongside their group—knowing the gathering will be intentional, Christ-centered, and deeply meaningful."

Make sure to let the leaders in your church know about this opportunity to let Lakeview help AMPLIFY students’ faith, friendships, and the ministry that is already being built in the church.

INSIDER ACTION:

Fall Service Project Volunteer Opportunity

Do you want a chance to roll up your sleeves and make a lasting impact at camp? We are looking for 6-8 volunteers to come to camp on October 8-9 to help re-roof Kickapoo cabin at Camp Lakeview.

Moving forward, we are planning to offer volunteer service project opportunities like this each fall ad spring, addressing a specific project or need that camp has. So plan now to join us in October for two full days of meaningful work, fellowship, and fun. Housing and meals are provided.

To get involved, email Danny Frastaci, Operations Director, for more details and to express your interest.

SESSION SPOTLIGHT:
Join 90+ Ladies for the Fall Women's Retreat

Ladies, have you signed up for the Women's Retreat yet? If not, we hope you'll consider joining the already 90+ ladies who have signed up so far! Join us on Sept 26–28 for a refreshing weekend with other women, surrounded by God’s creation and grounded in His Word. This year’s retreat features Sarah Salzberg, Old Testament teacher at Orange Lutheran High School in Orange County, CA, who will be leading us in “So Much to Chew On: Learn to Read the Bible the Way It Was Intended.”

Enjoy meaningful teaching, heartfelt worship, and time to rest, connect, and grow in your faith - but don't take our word for it! Here is what ladies from year's past have said:

"You need to go. Fill your tank, breathe deeply, and come be blessed."

"It was an amazing weekend filled with love, joy, and happiness!!"

"It’s a wonderful way to connect to God, to others, and to self."

"The women's retreat is a time to draw close to Jesus and rest at his feet. It's a step away from the noise and chaos of the world. It's full of laughter, camp nostalgia, and feeling like a kid again."

STAFF SPOTLIGHT:
Meet Bill Finke, our new Director of Capital Development!

With the "For Generations to Come" capital campaign launching this year, we knew we had a VERY BIG NEED for additional help to keep our multiple projects on track and use the donations generously provided to us in an efficient and effective way - being good stewards with what was entrusted to us. As a result of that need (and thanks to a very generous grant) we are adding Bill Finke to our Full-Time Staff team as the Director of Capital Development.

Bill Finke is bringing decades of project management experience and a heart for ministry to Lakeview. His family’s love for camp began years ago, when his kids connected with Lakeview through White Creek Lutheran School and St. John’s Lutheran Church. Now, Bill is turning that personal connection into a professional calling—helping shape the future of Lakeview for generations to come.

Read on to hear more about Bill's background and what he will be doing in his new role here at camp!

CAMPAIGN UPDATE:
Building the Future, Together!

We are 3 months into our "For Generations to Come" campaign, and are nearly halfway to our 7 million dollar goal, praise God! Like any big dream, it can be daunting to look at all the work to be done, but Jose Beaton, Operations Director at Lakeview Springs, shares what encourages him as he looks at what is to come. May it be an encouragement to you to see the vision of the future we are building for camp together!

P.S. If you were a staff member at Lakeview and haven’t joined our Facebook "Past and Present Lakeview Ministries Staff" group yet, we’d love for you to reconnect! This group is the place to catch up with old friends, share memories, and stay up in the loop on the many things Alumni are doing to continue to support camp. We hope you'll join us!

We love to talk! Reply to this email and share your thoughts.

You are loved in Christ.
