Building an email list is your most important reason for blogging.
That's because it enables you to take one-time visitors and convert them into a permanent audience.
They become the backbone of your business.
So, how can you build that all important email list right from your blog?
The last 2 emails in this series talked about ...
1. The importance of the quality of content you publish.
2. The need to have a really clear and prominently placed calls-to-action (CTA) on your blog.
The quality of your content will give you the authority credentials that make your readers trust you.
That's always of #1 concern.
However…
No matter how good a job you do to position yourself as a leader and authority and somebody worth following…
people still respond best to your CTA's if they include some kind of incentive for subscribing to your email list.
This typically comes in t he form of a "lead magnet."
Sometimes it’s called an “ethical bribe.”
It's simply something you offer (at no cost) to people that's will help them solve a key problem.
Now, the trouble is…
most people think their lead magnet is supposed to be something that’s just loaded with tons of valuable information.
It’s not.
Nowadays, people don't really need information as much as they just need ==>
someone or something to help them solve their immediate problem.
And they really don’t want to spend an enormous amount of time in solving that problem.
I have found that the shorter and simpler your lead magnet is, the more likely it is to be effective in converting people into your email subscribers.
The simpler, shorter and more direct it is…
the more people will want to opt into your list in order to obtain it.
So, for instance, give them a 10-point checklist.
Or a list of clickable resources.
These things are quick and easy to consume.
Better than “consume”...
they are reference guides that people will refer to over and over again.
So people see them as truly valuable.
They can see how they can actually use your 10-point checklist, for instance, to improve their lives.
They can see how your list of resources (another example) might include ones that they need in their business.
And here’s the good news for you...
These things are far easier to create than, say, a long ebook.
Or even a video training.
People tend to overcomplicate the lead magnet thing.
They try to offer something spectacular and wonderful.
Don't do that.
Focus on just one specific problem that your readers typically face every day.
Help them to solve that problem.
Just that ONE problem.
This is something that they'll be happy to get.
I often get resistance with from my students with this.
They insist that something has to be elaborate and beefy in order to entice people to join their list.
Just the opposite.
Most people are so inundated with information and ebooks and long-form blog posts…
they are only too happy to get something that's short and easy and quick to consume, or ready to use.
What a breath of fresh air!
Simple and direct.
Something they can instantly put on their desktop and have as a resource or guide.
So make it short.
Make it sweet.
Make it simple.
Make it valuable.
People will certainly be incentivized to join your email list in order to obtain it.
Next time, we'll talk about how this process will get people to the point of really wanting to follow you.
Not just trick and tease them into joining your email list, but in really wanting to be part of what you're doing.
When you achieve that, you will have a loyal following that will be easily converted into buyers, clients and repeat customers.
Now, think about what your lead magnet is going to be, or re-examine the one you've been using.
