Markets are now focused on the Fed’s September 15–16 meeting. August payrolls came in stronger than expected at 162,000, while unemployment held steady at 4.1% and wage growth eased to 3.1%. The data suggests the U.S. economy remains resilient, but also gives the Fed more room to keep rates higher for longer.


Treasury yields moved higher as expectations for a Fed rate hike increased.

However, the upcoming CPI report could still shift market sentiment, especially if inflation shows signs of cooling or reaccelerating. Inflation remains above the Fed’s target, although longer-term expectations are still relatively well anchored.
