   ISLANDS OF MYSTERY & LEGEND

What is the Mystery & the Legend?

There are few places on earth more intriguing than the world’s two great Islands of Mystery and Legend lost in the remotest South Pacific – Easter Island and Pitcairn Island.

Since we were kids, we’ve seen pictures of Easter’s huge brooding stone statues – but how many people have experienced this mystery in person?

The power and magic of being with the moai, as they are called, will never leave you. At sunrise, sunset, or starlight, the moai are inexplicably mysterious. Standing over 20ft tall, the 20 ton statues were carved in stone without metal tools by early Rapa Nui people. You have to see and experience it for yourself.
To get to Pitcairn from Easter is not as simple as flying the 1,200 miles between them. There is no airport on the island.
The only way to Pitcairn is by boat. We take the once-weekly flight to Papeete, Tahiti (2,600 miles), fly the next day to Mangareva (1,030 miles) to board the MV Bravo. It is the Pitcairn Government’s passenger and cargo vessel with comfortable cabins, good food and an open bar. We arrive the next day.
On the legend, you’ve heard the story of The Mutiny on the Bounty – of how, on April 28, 1789, Fletcher Christian, first mate of HMS Bounty led a mutiny of the crew against the tyrannical Captain William Bligh, set Bligh and crew members loyal to him in a longboat, and took the Bounty to sail into history. You probably saw the movie, yet only a handful each year experience being where it took place. Now you can.
When we arrive at Pitcairn, we are warmly greeted and spend four days exploring this beautiful island and learning about their history and culture -- developed in isolation until they were discovered.

There's a lot to do on the island and we'll explore, fish, hike, and whatever we want to do -- until the Bravo comes to take us back to Tahiti.
