Impulse for Cultural Renewal

December 22, 2020
6:00 - 8:00 PM
Mountain Time (UTC -7)

Brian Gray
David Tresemer
Robert Schiappacasse

Every 20 years, Jupiter and Saturn meet in the heavens.  Their conjunction marks the beginning of a new chapter – a new cultural impulse that affects our capacities to discern truth and act wisely – and also reconnects us with the beauty of the natural world.  In this presentation, members of the StarFire Research Group introduce us to the challenges and opportunities offered by this conjunction:

~  What experiences in 2020 have been leading up to the moment of exact
     conjunction on December 22?

~  Can understanding the 20-year Jupiter-Saturn conjunction cycle guide us in
mind, heart, and action during times that often seem dark and confusing?

~  How does recalling the events of Christ’s life assist us to understand our own
     time?

~  What does it mean that this particular conjunction occurs not only in the sign
of Capricorn, the Sea Goat, but also at the winter solstice (summer solstice in
     the Southern Hemisphere)?

     ∼  The background sign: Aquarius
∼  The triplicity cycles in history

Building Narrative out of the Great Conjunction of Saturn and Jupiter on Winter Solstice 2020
Mary Stewart Adams
Live stream presentation: December 19, 2020
8 PM CET (2 PM Eastern)
(Only in English)

In this presentation, Star Lore Historian Mary Stewart Adams will share a narrative picture of the Winter Solstice Great Conjunction of Jupiter with Saturn as it can be understood through the rhythm of “five.” Five as witnessed in the active, engaged, striding forward of the Representative of Humanity, and as it is geometrically expressed in the dodecahedral form of the Foundation Stone of the Goetheanum.  Five also lends its rhythm to the Foundation Stone Meditation, to the epoch of time in which we find ourselves as described through Anthroposophy.  This is also expressed in 2020 through the culmination of five Venus circuits since its rare Transit of the Sun eight years ago.

Mary will use the rhythm of five for engaging the celestial phenomenon under consideration as a way to elevate the narrative from our mundane experience into the mystery of what is essential and yet unseen.  In particular, we will experience how it can be imagined through the festival cycle from Christmas 2020 to Christmas 2023.

Cosmic Signatures in the Corona Year:
The Predictable and the Unforeseen

Alignments between planets such as the Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn on December 21, 2020 can now be calculated very precisely in advance.  The same applies to the wandering planets in front of the fixed stars, and to solar and lunar eclipses.  Comets behave completely differently, as they are often only discovered on their irregular orbits when they come close to the sun.  It is then possible to calculate when the earth will move through its dust trail, but where and when a falling star will flash in the atmosphere is not predictable.  Sunspots also appear particularly frequently every 11 years, but exactly when a dark spot will form on the sun and how its shape will develop is difficult to predict.
The Great Conjunction of Jupiter and Saturn:
A Call from the Cosmic Self
Wolfgang Held
Media Center Recording (Only in German)

Jupiter and Saturn are the two best known planetary gas giants in our solar system.  In their rapid rotation yet calm, quiet run, they represent identity and independence.  When they are in conjunction, their differences are revealed.  Jupiter shines out, Saturn shimmers in.  This year the conjunction is outstanding because it occurs on the day of the winter solstice, which is the day of the birth of the spiritual sun, and also because Pluto, the planet of the threshold, stands between the other two planets.  Death and life orchestrate this great encounter, which is also the fifth in a special series of Jupiter-Saturn conjunctions.  This lecture takes us from great astronomical phenomena down to our human and social situation today, including our experience of pandemic.
