Barsha MB Tasting Room - Wine Club Updates

Spring is in the air! As the weather is warming and the days are getting longer, pack your bags, Barsha is transporting you overseas. Located in the south of Europe, get ready to smell the blooming flowers and wines from the Mediterranean. Classico takes you to Italy, offering a Nerello Mascalese for the red and a Trebbiano blend for the white, both showing great minerality. Riserva will land you in Greece with a Malagousia for the white and back to Italy for the red with a Super Tuscan, both ample and with great character.

Colli di Catone Frascati Superiore 2018
60% Trebbiano, 40% Malvasia
Lazio, Italy

Lazio is the only region where Trebbiano is used in wines of DOCG quality, specifically Frascati Superiore. In both, Trebbiano is blended with its most common partner, Malvasia Bianca. Malvasia del Lazio an ancient varietal was long recognized as the region’s greatest historic variety; cherished for its wines’ minerality and age-ability.
Full of character, minerality, and lemony zing.

As a dry white wine, Trebbiano pairs well with hard Italian cheeses, seafood pastas, white pizza, roast chicken and even pesto.

Food Pairing: White Pizza

Tenuta Tascante Ghiaia Nera Etna Rosso 2017
Nerello Mascalese
Sicily, Italy

A pure expression of Nerello Mascalese, the wine sees fruit sourced from various sites, including young vines planted on the northeast flank of the volcano in the Contrada Piano Dario. This vineyard consists of 98 terraces with vines surrounded by chestnut trees and forest bramble. This bright, mid-weight wine is redolent of wild cherry, blue flower and volcanic ash. This is a versatile, easy-drinking and food-friendly Etna wine.

Pairs wonderfully with oily fish like sardines, tuna, and swordfish, as well as pork products like sausages, meatloaf, and meatballs.

Food Pairing: Mediterranean Roasted Sardines

Anatolikos Vineyards Malagousia WIld Ferment 2018
Malagousia
Avdira, Greece

Rich and complex. Made with organically grown Malagouzia and a small amount of Assyrtiko grapes. Hand harvested. Fermented with wild yeast and resting on its lees with battonage for 5 months. One third was aged in oak barrels for three months. It is not filtered and does not undergo any treatment before bottling.
Golden with green shades. Mature, dense nose, with a particularly strong element of the Mediterranean herbs, the chamomile the basil and the mint. Yellow fruit, white and yellow flowers in a complex bouquet. A pungent mouth with excellent flavour balance and very good acidity, oily, with great persistence.

Ideal with Greek and Mediterranean dishes, especially seafood, olive oil-based vegetable stews with fresh herbs, poultry, lightly-sauced pasta, pies, yellow cheeses and fresh vegetable salads.

Food Pairing: Steamed Mussels with Fennel, Tomatoes, Ouzo, and Cream

Donna Olimpia 1898 Bolgheri 2014
70% Cabernet Sauvignon, 15% Merlot, 10% Petite Verdot, 5% Cabernet Franc
Tuscany, Italy

The estate bears the name “Donna Olimpia 1898”. In 1898, Gherardo della Gherardesca gave the name of his wife, Olimpia Alliata, Lady of Biserno, to the estate to celebrate their 25th wedding anniversary.
Ruby red with deep purple hues. Aromas of dark-skinned berry, cedar and a whiff of exotic spice. The dense palate delivers black cherry and white pepper alongside round tannins. Ample, clean, and well-structured.

Suggested food pairing would be a hearty dish. To keep it Mediterranean and Tuscan inspired we try this.

Food Pairing: Tuscan Lasagna
