Happy Memorial Day Weekend!

What a weekend we have planned in Indianapolis!  Few cities will have as many visitors this weekend!

Of course, we always have this little thing called the Indy 500 (the largest sporting event in the world with a sold-out crowd of 400,000+).  And for the second straight year our Indiana Pacers are hosting the NBA Eastern Conference finals!  This year our opponent is the New York Knicks!  The third game of the series in downtown Indianapolis will start about 3 hours after the scheduled conclusion of the Indy 500, just 5.5 miles to the east of the Indianapolis Motor Speedway.

Traffic might get really interesting if there are weather delays that end the race later in the day.  It happens-look up what time last year's race ended (hint-later than the Pacers tip-off).

Sunday May 25 sports schedule in Indianapolis:

6:00am- Gates Open Indianapolis Motor Speedway
12:38am-"Drivers Start Your Engines" (start of the Indy 500)
8:00pm- Knicks at Pacers (game 3)

All and all these are some of the reasons Indianapolis is the place to be in May!

Getting back to why we have Memorial Day weekend in the first place.  Frankly, we want to place the real importance of this holiday weekend where it is due.  Sports are nice, but giving your life for your country deserves more attention!

A small bit of trivia you may not know.  The U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs says that Memorial Day is celebrated in late May because that is when flowers will be blooming everywhere across America.  In fact, the predecessor to Memorial Day (until 1868) was called Decoration Day.  Decoration Day allowed citizens of the USA to decorate the graves of deceased veterans with fresh flowers!

This year, we have much to be thankful for.  At 3pm, local time, Monday, please observe the National Moment of Remembrance.  At this time, we all can remember, for just a moment, those who died while serving in the U.S. military.  If not for the freedoms they fought and earned for us, we would all surely have much different lives.

And a much different weekend planned.

Always Remember!
