As writers, we need to know that our stories, perceptions and experiences hold meaning and worth.
So often, our inner creator is swept aside, feeling overlooked, like the kid to whom nobody gives a valentine. Or perhaps the kid who made the ugliest card and is shirked by all his classmates.
There is no substitute for validating that inner creator by giving her time, attention, and a supportive environment free from distractions and responsibilities.
It's a habit, or a throwback from childhood, that we seek others' validation before we take the next step in our writing or art. We want to be heard, seen, noticed, appreciated, or we feel stuck.
Yet we can give ourselves validation, through self-awareness and trust. This means: devoting to our inner writer our best attention, noticing, listening, honoring. Allowing the stories and feelings to be shared that want to be shared, but have, until now, been silenced or ignored.
You can also find validation in any Wildfire Writing class or event this season, but especially on a women's retreat designed for your writer-self, your Dream Kid, your mattering.
Read on, if this weekend is for you.
Meanwhile, Dear Valentine, allow yourself to give yourself full validation in every way it occurs to you this Valentine's Day.
Yours in celebrating Dream Kid, Christi
