"Wear gratitude like a cloak and it will feed every corner of your life" — Rumi
At Wilbur, we take our purpose of holding space to heart, maintaining this space as a sanctuary for those in need of stillness, nature and peace. We, like everyone else, are prone to also holding emotions, fears and worries, to the point that they may burden us and distract from our purpose. A late-night bath is a wonderful way to allow those extra burdens to be released to the waters, to return ourselves to stillness and sleep.
During the holiday season, many of us will be called to hold space for family, friends, clients and others. To guide us, may we look to Wilbur's medicinal water, how it holds space for us when we bathe:
After a shower to cleanse the body, approaching the flumes, the water is still, reflective. (Stillness can be so inviting!) As we submerge quietly, the water allows itself to be displaced; waves are formed as it envelops us in warmth. It nourishes us with healthy minerals, flowing gently around us. If we are still, it is still with us; if we move, it effortlessly shifts to accommodate us. And most importantly, as soon as we step out, the waters releases us completely, and immediately begins its own return to stillness, reflection. This is the essence of holding space.
May we all be like the water this season, hosting graciously when we are called to do so, and also allowing ourselves to be held when others bless us in that way. For a model, remember the Wilbur water - or better yet - schedule a visit to Wilbur and let it really sink in! We look forward to welcoming you back. Until then...
Happy Holidays - From All of Us at Wilbur Hot Springs!
