Endangered Species: Environmental Protection
Dear Guests and Friends of Wilbur Hot Springs,

This spring, we are celebrating the stunning beauty of a vibrant post-fire resurgence of life and color, and at the very same time, those who work hard to preserve and protect these lands are facing an existential situation. This message is a humble call to action for all of us.

Tuleyome is the non-profit organization that owns the conservation easement for Wilbur’s 1560-acre Nature Preserve, but they are much more than that. Their work was instrumental in the designation of the Berryessa Snow Mountain National Monument in 2015 and its significant addition in 2024 which brought the boundary of protected lands to Wilbur’s property line. Tuleyome’s dedicated team works every day to engage and educate thousands of people each year to create positive change for our fragile environment. They provide an important liaison between government, tribal, public and private stakeholders to reshape public policy and generate on-the-ground action. Wilbur is just one example of their work: in partnership with Tuleyome, we have ambitious goals for land stewardship in this region. What started with a simple easement, has grown to hosting California Naturalist education at Wilbur, to now working with CalFire, Colusa County RCD, the Yocha Dehe Wintun Nation, BLM and Monument managers, and neighboring landowners to bring prescribed and cultural burning back to these lands, with broader aims of developing regional stewardship plans and practices which will positively affect the health of many thousands of acres.

Tuleyome has helped Wilbur immeasurably, and today they need our help.

With the recent federal budget cuts, Tuleyome has lost over $400,000 in funding, forcing major cutbacks and threatening the organization’s mission and its very existence. Wilbur intends to support Tuleyome to the fullest extent possible in this time of crisis. We are asking you to make a donation to Tuleyome at this time, in any amount that works for you. Wilbur and Wilbur’s stewards will match dollar-for-dollar all funds raised by this initiative, effectively doubling your contribution.

Tuleyome is an organization whose work has immense value to Wilbur and this region - now and for generations into the future. Please join us in helping them through this time of great need. We will all be the better for it.

With deep gratitude,

Wilbur Hot Springs Stewards and Staff
