In our cyclical journey of land stewardship, we witness the remarkable resurgence of life
through our many activities – tending, planting, observing and adapting. It is especially
magical to observe the construction and effect of beaver dam analogs (BDAs). These
humble structures, built in harmony with nature's blueprint, have become emblems of
restoration, inviting water to linger a while longer in the valley's embrace. They serve as
a reminder of the interconnectedness of all things, a living testament to the power of
collaboration between humans and nature. We see the land responding with gratitude,
its resurgence mirroring our own capacity for healing and renewal. As the sun reaches
its peak at the summer solstice, we honor the abundance and vitality of the season,
knowing that our collective efforts contribute to the earths continued flourishing here at
Wilbur.
As we approach the summer solstice, the land takes its afternoon rest, remaining
vibrant at dusk and dawn. We invite you to visit with us during this special season and
enjoy the sparkling mornings, sun kissed afternoons and breezy evenings of this years’
longest days.

In the heat of the summer, we work at a slower pace, when we are able, doing our best to stay cool from the heat. It turns out that Arundo or Giant Reed, has tenacious roots that are best dug now when the soil is dry like it is now. We are gradually removing this invasive rhizome throughout the property and you might notice its absence around the Ramada and hotel. This species is a serious fire hazard and is a lot of work to remove, but Hannah is making steady progress! You’ll see great piles of these roots near the steel building drying out for winter burning. Our volunteer efforts are fewer during this time of the year, so please think about joining us for some stewardship work this fall.
