To build friendships and community you don’t necessarily have to carve out lots of time to make it work.
We love a bit of single-minded focus and time alone, but there’s something about old-fashioned collaboration that we’re loving.
People have been talking about the line between work and family for years, but most of us keep our domestic lives separate from the concept of fun and connection. There are things we have to get done on the weekend and sometimes we trudge through them at the expense of the fun stuff.
Building our own little communities isn’t something that needs to slip from our grasp just because we might have a lot going on.
We challenge you to find ways to connect with friends or neighbours that don’t mean you’ll reach the end of the weekend feeling like you’re already behind preparing for the week ahead. Here are some of the fun things we’ve been doing lately with people we know:
Supermarket runs, cooking together and sharing the spoils
Spontaneous communal dinners without the fanfare
Trips to the nursery for shared punnets of flowers, or taking cuttings and sharing them
Decluttering our houses together
Going on communal drives to hardware or stationery stores
Meeting for writing or work dates in cafes
There are so many ways to bring community back that don’t need us to heavily tweak our schedules. And it’s the connections we make with others that help each of us through.
In the spirit of collaboration, can we offer you a hand?
