Subject: Will Havana open on 1 November?💌 - SimplyCubaTours

Hola Friend,

This week has been a little slow on my end. Spent the weekend in training with The Travel Bootcamp Team, which was fun. I am looking forward to show you things I learnt from it 😉

It was also great to see more routes opening up to take people to Cuba and families finally getting reunited, it truly warms my heart to see that. I also got very excited for the people who managed to take their holiday in Cuba, how good is that!? 🌞💃🛫

Well, we decided to make our situation with Yoanis a challenge... a race even... let's see who can go where first! Ha! What do you think? He'll be in Australia before I can travel out of here?

On a sad note, further sanctions have been put into place against Cuba which has now seen Western Union remittances from USA (they were already stopped from most places) now also be stopped. Income from Cuban families living in the USA has been a great help for the people of Cuba. Just like in the Philippines, it is one of the biggest sources of income. I really hope that we get some good outcomes in the upcoming elections, as it is getting harder and harder for these amazing people all because of politics 😢

Travel updates!

Big question this week has been whether Havana will open on 1 November or even 15th????

At this stage we still haven't seen anything official to confirm the plan. We are eagerly waiting as we have people who would like to do day trips into the city. 🤞🤞🤞

On a good note tho, Cubana announced

the return of their Madrid-Santiago de Cuba flights from 15 November. Aaaand Holguin International airport is also returning to operation from 3 November.

Only other news really is that Cuban Authorities will now not allow Hand Luggage on the planes. They are not the only ones banning this. It is a recommendation by the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO).

They also warn about items that may get confiscated, like certain food items, seeds, vegetables, fruits and the like. However you can import UHT Milk and canned meats as long as they are known brands. Have to be careful with art and telecommunication items. Latter may need a special permit to enter the country.

Cash can be taken in in any currencies, but the limit is only $5,000 USD in cash.

If you are considering importing scooters or electric bikes, do check the rules around them as well as any marine motor related items.

Further prohibited items are:

  • Narcotic, psychotropic drugs, precursors or similar substances. In the case of psychotropic substances for personal use, they are authorized upon presentation of the corresponding certificates.

  • Blood products, human vaccines, culture media as well as other biological products.
Medical equipment, devices and supplies in quantities that are representative of a commercial activity.

  • Radioactive products used for diagnostic or therapeutic purposes.

  • Any other medical product that may constitute a risk to human health.

  • Weapons and explosives are not allowed either: their import, possession, possession, use, transportation, maintenance, delivery, reception and export are illegal. Rapier poles, blowguns, crossbows, bows and arrows, mittens, truncheons, blackjacks, rubber poles and the like cannot be imported.

  • Finally, the atomizers that expel irritating, neuroparalyzing, fumigation, asphyxiating, tear or poisonous gases will be seized by the customs authorities. The same will happen to you with weapons or electrical defenses, in case you matter.

The seizure of your merchandise can also occur when you exceed the amount of the same item in your luggage. Miscellaneous products have limits on the number of each item you can have. These can be found in resolutions 206 and 207 of Cuban Customs. I better check these before my next trip I think... make sure I can take all my toothpastes with me!

I am excited to say that the Simply Cuba Scuba Tour is READY!

It is a 14 day tour to take you around Cuba and show you the most beautiful underwater world that you have ever seen!

Our motto to all our tours, especially the diving tours is 'Safety first'. Which is why we have chosen diving centers that are certified by the American Canadian Underwater Association (ACUC) as well as Underwater Activities World Federation (CMAS) to international standards. Providing certified diving gear, so you don't have to bring your own.

Their qualified and well experienced diving instructors provide for a safe and pleasant dive, as not only they know their area well, they also adjust the diving excursion to the skill levels of the divers on the tour to ensure you get an unforgettable experience.

Cuban underwater world is absolutely stunning!

Cuban reefs are little explored and undisturbed which gives a unique experience as sea life, in particular, grouper, snapper, angelfish, and many others are curious and will interact closely with divers. The Caribbean's largest island is home to the second largest reef in the world behind the Australian Great Barrier and, what's more, is that Cuban diving features long drop-offs or the Grand Canyon promises that dives are eventful and unforgettable.

Pristine, warm, balmy waters with great visibility provide the perfect underwater playground awaiting you to discover it.

This is a photographer’s heaven, where at every turn there is a near-perfect shot to be taken.

The exotic marine life in Cuba is lively and colorful. Parrotfish, balloonfish, and green moray are sighted amidst anemones, untouched sponges and mollusks. On the seafloor you may see shrimps, Caribbean spiny lobster, batwing and channel clinging crabs crawling. And let's not leave out the cushion star, red heart urchin and sea cucumbers either!

Cuba are amongst the most intact marine ecosystems in the region. It will not disappoint.

I'd share the brochure with you, but it seems our internet is taking a page out of Cuba's book tonight and cannot load it... In saying that, If' you'd like to have a look, head over to the Simply Cuba Scuba page.
