Subject: Cuban Newsletter time! 💌 - SimplyCubaTours

Hola Friend,

How are you this week? I have to say so far I have been struggling... today marks exactly 10 months and 1 week since I have seen my partner. My trip back to Cuba in April, I thought waiting till than was bad enough! And now I am not even sure when the borders in Australia will open.

Compound this with a couple of cyclones at the beginning of this week, one of which has gone through his town and knocked communication and power out for a couple of days. Thank God the other one seemed to have weir off its course!

I am normally not one to complain, and really, who am I to when he is the one who has to really struggle each day, looking for hours for supplies, often coming back empty handed. Or being hit by the 18 hour power outage. Or not having worked since March, doing what he truly loves, taking people on tours and showing off his beautiful country - you should see him when he does! It lights up his soul 🥰

And after all of this he still sounds optimistic - in fact is more worried about making sure he is not worrying me, he still finds a way to be an amazing dad to his daughters, he still shows care and consideration to others....

So I better but my big girl panties on, and stay strong. Focus on our dream and goals so he will actually have something to do when the borders open 😎

Travel Updates

I have good news!!!!! Well for Canadian travelers at least...

Mintur confirmed that Balneario de Varadero will reopen on October 15, 2020!

Tourists will be able to stay in four and five star hotels, and take excursions and other activities within an approved zone of Varadero, the main destination for sun and beaches in Cuba. It will reopen to international tourism and will resume air operations.

It is only a partial reopening, initially of the 4 and 5 star hotels, maritime excursions, nature excursions and other activities in the area. Of course, there will be regular health check ups involved.

Unfortunately at this stage people will still not be able to see or stay with loved ones. But it is a positive move and the only one confirmed!

We have seen some hotel packages and flights available for Holguin from November. Have had people successfully booking to Santa Clara for December. And even seen some flights to Varadero being cancelled for Late October and even December 🤔 which is confusing, but we think it may be due to restrictions of hotel stays only being required in October, not sure why December would have already been cancelled...

Also, Havana is managing its new found freedom so far. Let's hope that will stay positive. Schools in Artemisa also did end up starting, albeit late due to the cyclone hitting their area.

So all in all a positive week of developments for Cuba!

🤞🤞🤞 We can keep the good news coming from here on in!

Exciting news

I am so excited! Even though life has been tough in Cuba Yoanis and Yunior have been coming up with news ideas to showcase Cuba to visitors in 2021.

They are currently designing a diving tour - I haven't yet seen the itinerary, but I mentioned last week that we are planning on keeping the numbers in this group to 4 people max, so you can enjoy the drive with our guide Yunior in his classic Ford. (see the picture above) He loves diving himself and is putting together his dream diving tour itinerary for our keen divers out there.

Yoanis on the other hand has been dreaming and scheming of some trekking tours around the island, to get people back in to the amazing nature that Cuba has. And it look like they may even include some bike riding as well.

Aaaaaaaand, because we had so many people interested in Baracoa, we are planning on a drive and fly tour to Baracoa where you get to take the scenic drive, discovering the island on the way to Baracoa. Enjoy its beauty and fly back to Havana from there.

I have to say, I was only given the brief details, so am looking forward to them delivering me the outline so I can tell you all about them!

What's on the blog this week?

You know what I love most about going on tours? That you get to see and experience more than one place and you tend to go further than if you were staying in a hotel or even if you had to drive yourself... Santiago de Cuba is one of those places that most never discover.

Yet there is so much to see and do....
