Dear Friend, “I didn’t know how to write my name before, but now I can write it by myself.” These powerful words are from a member of one of our Savings Groups in Rwanda. Literacy is a key skill that allows program participants the freedom to travel, communicate in writing with family and friends, read the Bible on their own, and open businesses.
Five Talents programs in Rwanda, focused on female-headed households, are equipping women with training in literacy as well as in savings and credit management, sustainable agriculture, healthy cooking, and even ways to address child malnutrition — particularly for children under five. What’s more, the training the women are receiving is empowering them to invest in projects that help them generate income.
