Thank you for joining us last week for Building Resilient Communities in the Democratic Republic of the Congo with guest speaker Irene Nyambura. It is a special opportunity to have one of our expert program partners in person to share about their experience working with Savings Groups. We are grateful to Irene for traveling such a distance and grateful to you for coming to hear her stories of flourishing.

I hope you were encouraged learning from Irene about the successes in Aru where, despite remarkable circumstances, Savings Groups are advancing literacy, empowering women leaders, fostering peaceful collaboration, and launching thriving businesses.

As I continue to reflect on what Irene shared, I am struck by her insight that even in the most challenging places, God is there. He is already at work. Our role is to bring our hearts, minds, and resources to collaborate with God’s project of transformation for those living in poverty.

Five Talents relies on your partnership to carry on the critical work that Irene is doing in the DRC. As you heard during the evening, an estimated 81% of the population lives on less than $3 per person per day, which is the World Bank’s international threshold for extreme poverty. Illiteracy rates are also significantly high. Yet, because of you, Five Talents was able to open 60 literacy centers this year. Among program participants, 43% now have emergency savings and over half are able to purchase vital medicines such as malaria treatment.
