Dear Friend,

We all want to make a better future for ourselves, our families, and our communities, whether through love, labor, or the financial resources entrusted to us. One of the tragedies of poverty is that it often denies individuals the opportunities and agency to shape the future for those they leave behind.

Perhaps that’s why so many members of Five Talents Savings Groups, as their businesses and incomes grow, speak not only of changes to their current standard of living, but also of what their legacy will be. Corine in Burundi, whose story we have shared before, rejoiced that she can now leave land to her children and said, “When I die, I do not want my children to say that their mother was worthless, but instead I want my children to see how much I have been able to provide.”

It is a joy to provide for others. At Five Talents, we know the joy of helping transform lives because of your provision for this ministry, and we thank you for your support. During this year’s Make-A-Will Month, we offer a particular prayer of thanksgiving for those of you who have included Five Talents in your legacy plans.

Make-A-Will Month is an invitation to reflect and then take concrete action to define our legacies. We want to take this opportunity to reshare one of the most inspiring reflections we’ve ever heard, by the late Richard Garnett, who was an incredible advocate for faithful generosity as well as for Five Talents. His words are worth listening to again and again as we all seek to conform our hearts to God’s generous will for our lives.
