BOARD ANNOUNCEMENT

BOARD ELECTIONS

Wayfarers Chapel is guided by a five member board with rotating terms. The board handles the day-to-day operations (i.e. keeping the lights on and ensuring we have speakers and musicians each week, etc.) and provides guidance on the direction of the chapel (i.e. creation of programs to support our members, capital projects like sidewalks and parking, etc.). The board typically meets for a few hours every two or three months - sometimes a little extra if there are special projects in play.

Board members are elected by the membership for two-year terms on a rotating basis, so every year is a new opportunity. Elections (or affirmations) are held at the annual meeting (Nov. 2nd this year). The next board term begins January 1, 2026.

If you are interested in (or even curious about!) supporting the chapel by serving on the board, please contact one of the current board members. You can connect with them at chapel, or by using their contact information found near the bottom of this newsletter.

THIS SUNDAY

SERVICE - Sunday, August 10 (10 AM)

This Sunday is the music of Crowe Capps and the message "Authenticity, Vulnerability, and Trust" by Dr. Katie Davis.

DRUM CIRCLE - Sunday, August 10 (6-8 PM)

Get ready for some serious fun as we let the rhythm send us sailing! Bring your own drum or use one of ours - plenty to go around. No experience required. See you soon!

COMING SOON

REIKI - Wednesday, August 20 (4-6 PM)

Reiki is an energy technique - prayer in action you might say - that works equally well for emotional, spiritual, and physical issues. These short (10-20 min.) sessions are an AMAZING way to relax and rejuvenate and are suitable for everyone.

Last month, one of the folks who came for a session had been experiencing constant hip and knee pain. After the session, she said, "the pain is gone." Another participant whose body and mind were agitated prior to the session, indicated she was extremely calm after the session. Results vary, and reiki is not a replacement for medical treatment, but these experiences are fairly common for folks receiving reiki.

Sessions are free and open to everyone - you, your neighbor, the guy you met at the grocery store - everyone! Donations to support the chapel are welcome.

THE READING ROOM - Friday, August 22 (6:30-8:30 PM)

WRITERS GROUP SPECIAL READING

Multiple writers from the Wayfarers Writing Group will be presenting their original works on August 22 from 6:30-8:30 pm. Each writer expresses their independent and unique voice through creative stories or poetry. The diversity of our community rises from the sharing. We will have a refreshment break about halfway through the event.  Guests are invited to connect with the writers at the conclusion. Please bring your open hearts to this open sharing.

WEEKLY EVENTS

MEDITATION - Mondays (5-6 PM)

The meditation hour follows a basic format

  • Arrive quietly

  • Introductions, if new faces

  • Meditation followed by brief discussion about the meditation experience

  • 5 minute closing silent meditation

It is a bit like our Sunday Services in that the meditation leader and type of meditation changes each week. This format offers wonderful experiences for both seasoned and novice meditators. Everyone is welcome!

WRITERS GROUP - Tuesdays (5-6:30 PM)

Do you like to write? Or maybe THINK you might like it, but just can't seem to get motivated? We can help!

Every week the Wayfarers Writers Group shares their recent writings and then leaves with a subject "prompt" for writing to be shared the next week.

Please note, the group will not meet 8/19 and the 8/12 meeting is only for those participating in the 8/22 Reading Room (see article above).

LAST WEEK

Jen Utley and Ruth Henry combined music and message with "Conversations on Joy" which is now available online.

We then continued the joy by sharing good food and fellowship during our monthly potluck.

THOUGHT FOR THE WEEK

“Vulnerability is not a sign of weakness;

it’s a sign of courage and authenticity.”
