Office of the Attorney General Meeting Recap

Yesterday, October 22nd, the Virginia Fund IRL Coalition was joined by Senior Assistant Attorney General Joelle Gotwals, and Chief of Staff Nicky Zamostny with the Virginia Office of the Attorney General to discuss the next steps following the META settlement dollars. In this meeting, we learned that there is an opportunity for increased funding from META if additional social media companies are found liable for harming teens and youth.

Join us on Tuesday, October 27th, for our official kickoff meeting with the Afterschool Alliance, who will share models and strategies other states have used when directing the use of funds for youth mental health and youth development. An email invitation has been sent out to coalition members.

Lights on Afterschool

Thank you to everyone who took time to shine a light on afterschool programs yesterday during Lights on Afterschool! In Harrisonburg, the Harrisonburg Out-of-School Learning Coalition, led by Mayor Reed, met at city council to light up city hall! Our friends at Boys & Girls Clubs of the Blue Ridge hosted a Lights on Afterschool celebration for their youth and families. In Michigan, attendees of the MOTT Meeting came together to create a lightbulb shape and shined a light on afterschool programs across the country.

While not every step happens publicly, please know that VPOST is working diligently behind the scenes to keep the ball rolling. We will continue building awareness, engaging key stakeholders, and advancing the conversation.

VPOST will send weekly correspondence to coalition members with updates, resources, and opportunities related to Fund IRL. We encourage you to share these updates with your networks to help us continue expanding awareness across Virginia's out-of-school time community.
